There is an Marantz model 18 on the Detroit area Craigslist at the moment.
under 400.00. Don't know if it's a good deal but looks nice.

Unbelieveable, why they think that looks okay.
Wasn't this the first unit made in japan by marantz? The 18 was the last made here and the 19 the first from japan??

Yes and no. The 19s were at first manufacturered and asembled in the US and later they were kitted in the US and the kits sent to Japan and the kits assembled and then shipped back to the US where they were QC'd and individually tuned as the Japanese could not meet the specs set out by Marantz for them. As a result the US made units may be the preferred while the units assembled in Japan may meet the specs better as they'd have had some burn in time before final adjustment that the US units did not have.

:scratch2: Brian, very interesting!! Who'd have thought the imported kits would get the longer burn in time ahead of the us made units.
