View Full Version : Any Crowded House fans?
Ronald1973 11-14-2006, 05:12 AM Okay, I guess one would never assume this fan of Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, and Roy Acuff to be into Crowded House, eh? :D Well, while I know they're disbanded now, what a talented group! :music: I kept hearing "Weather With You" up at work and finally googled the song. I ordered the CD and all I can say is WOW! So I'm curious if anyone else likes these guys?:scratch2:
RichPA 11-14-2006, 05:55 AM Yep, I like Crowded House a lot, especially their self-titled first album :music:
EchoWars 11-14-2006, 07:21 AM Second album is as good, or maybe even better.
technut 11-14-2006, 07:37 AM I've got thier first and second albums on vinyl and they need replacment from being played to death. I didn't care too much for anything they put out after the second album, I think they let the producers have too much say later on and the music suffered because of it.
Not a fan per se, but have enjoyed many songs that Tim Finn wrote/performed with Crowded House and Split Enz.
uofmtiger 11-14-2006, 10:43 AM I love their first album for nostalgic reasons. I must have played it hundreds of times when it came out. I also bought their second album, but it never got as much play. I did like it, though.
Johncan 11-14-2006, 11:55 AM I posted this once before when Paul Hester, their drummer, died.
I loved Crowded House...
I worked at a mom & pop record shop in high school and college and I remember very clearly the day a promo of their debut album showed up at the store. I recognized Neil Finn's name from Split Enz so I opened it right away and played it several times. I was blown away. It was the Summer of 1986 and college radio was in its prime.
In the Spring of 1987 my buddies and I travelled from Elgin, IL to Daytona Beach, Crowded House was playing at a outdoor pavilion that week. They had pretty good attendance, but "Don't Dream Its Over" was just hitting on the radio, so the pavillion was not packed and it was raining. MTV was there filming for one of their Spring Break specials. I managed to get up to the front row and I sang along with every song. Some beautiful young woman I did not know was singing next to me. She knew every word as well. Somehow, the MTV cameras found us... I had a blue bandana tied around my head and a Stevie Ray Vaughn t-shirt on. They played the concert several times on MTV and you can see me singing in the rain and dancing with that very pretty young lady.
After the show ended, I was still standing there just watching the MTV crew pack up. Paul Hester yelled something that I could not make out. I turned to see if he was yelling at someone behind me and I get hit in the back of the head by the drum stick he was throwing at me. It bounced off my head on to the ground and up into my arms. I turned back and thanked him. He just stood there laughing. It was pretty funny. I still have the drum stick.
I managed to see them a few years later during the Woodface tour at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA (when I was in grad school). Paul was getting a drink at the bar and I walked up and told him he had hit in the head with a drum stick several years ago. He said he remembered it and we laughed. After the show, instead of throwing his drum stick at me, he threw me a box of Ritz Crackers.

EchoWars 11-14-2006, 06:08 PM Good story...
Drumstick was cool, but ya should have gone for the babe.
Strangeband 11-14-2006, 06:31 PM That is a cool story, John. I hope you have a video of the MTV show. I'd walk over to your place to see that!
I'm a fan of Crowded House as well as most things Finn. I think there are some gems on all the Crowded House albums. I first heard of the Finn brothers back when they backed Phil Manzanera on some of his solo recordings.
MitsuMan 11-14-2006, 06:38 PM I prefer the Split Enz. Although Crowed House was a bigger commercial success. :scratch2:
Johncan 11-14-2006, 06:51 PM I am not telling the story of the beautiful young lady from Tennessee who I spent the rest of the week with and then never saw again. Stories like that from my college days might get back to my wife ;)
Sadly, I don't have the concert on video.

Dusty Chalk 11-14-2006, 07:30 PM Another FinnFan here, especially Split Enz. Just checking in, I have no stories to tell. Woodface is awesome. Tim Finn is brilliant.
dmax99 11-14-2006, 07:41 PM Good Music! I've been a fan from the get-go....
A fan? I guess so. I have every split enz and crowded house album (vinyl not CD) I also have Tim & Neil Finn's various solo projects and there collaborations as the Finn brothers. Just wish they would tour the states more. Been a couple years since Tim or Neil were in my area
