Using command-line FLAC 1.1.2
with [-l 0 -b 1152 -r 2,2] parameters. After encoding CD rips, and comparing wav's and flac's, resulting audio are partially without background noises (big difference on 'unplug' records) that’s changing feelings about concert hall acoustic (am not here anymore!), it is partially cleaned from very specific sounding details.
Another feeling is about sound panorama - going more narrow and smoky.

Sorry for ma nontechnical pathetics, but I cant find other words to describe differences.

May be I need to use special parameters in command line, or change encoder?
Point is to leave PCM with the same quality or with best possible quality.
In fact, do not need a compression, have an idea to move from CD’s to streaming server.

If you are hearing a difference, you have something affecting the playback audio chain. How are you playing the FLAC files (what media player?) and how are you playing the WAV files? Are you comparing the CD in the CD-ROM tray to the FLAC file on your hard drive?

Welcome to AK.

thanx Johncan for your re
good questions. that impression was simply using winamp.

But after that, I spdif ADI1 DAC with AKG 271 headphones for wav in PC, and take Squeezebox3 from my friend (may be that soapbox is too week? but do not find anything better at the moment around) with AKG 271 for flac.

Of course, things sound better, but not the same.
Some records have no difference between wav and flac for me.
And some, f.e. multi instrumental 'life' records, have differences.
I am making flacs by myself from the records I know. So, first idea was that something wrong with encoding.

You are making FLAC files from records (vinyl) or CDs?

What does this mean: "But after that, I spdif ADI1 DAC with AKG 271 headphones for wav in PC, and take Squeezebox3 from my friend (may be that soapbox is too week? but do not find anything better at the moment around) with AKG 271 for flac."?

I too cannot understand what he's doing.

FLAC encoding should sound just like the source - no difference. If anything sounds different then he must have some extra processing effects taking place somewhere else - maybe the soundcard?
