Duffinator 11-21-2006, 05:08 PM Does that meter convert horsepower to watts? :D junkaudio 11-21-2006, 05:33 PM new goals masterlu 11-21-2006, 09:02 PM 0-2000 watts in .5 second :) mike175gr 11-21-2006, 10:00 PM You are a certified McNut! Urizen 11-21-2006, 10:02 PM Thanks for my new background image.:D kerozene 11-22-2006, 07:05 AM Wooo hooo! Vinyl Rules! 11-22-2006, 07:46 AM The Best of both Worlds! :zoom: Agreed, but is your Ferrari as reliable as your McIntosh? We've all heard the stores about those tempermental Italian cars. :sigh: masterlu 11-22-2006, 08:00 AM Agreed, but is your Ferrari as reliable as your McIntosh? We've all heard the stores about those tempermental Italian cars. :sigh: I have owned Italian cars (Ferrari & Lamborghini since 1987, 3 of each) and am very happy with the reliability & performance. Surprisingly I will never see any maintenance other than oil changes. I drive them about 2500 miles each per year. They have come a long way from the days you mention. The exception was the Countach which was somewhat of a Dinosaur and did require annual overhauls, usually in the $3K to $6K region. Tune ups today are at 30K miles, besides they all come with real warranties now (5 years) the Countach was 12 months or 12K miles. BTW, for those who want to know; my 2007 Porsche 997TT is the fastest of the three! Ivan Sandy G 11-22-2006, 08:11 AM Hmmmmpf ! My '69 Lincoln, on a day when its feelin' right, would take yr overpriced Kraut Sewin' Machine...<grin> Now, if it wasn't feelin' right, you'd have a pretty good chance, but otherwise...Hehehehehe... masterlu 11-22-2006, 08:17 AM Hmmmmpf ! Hittin the old Schnapps early are ya! ;) mzeitlin3348 11-22-2006, 08:28 AM My Maserati (the new Spyder), which has the F1 transmission and Ferrari engine (it's in the F430) is a fun machine, but is still built in the old style you mention. No way I'll keep it past warranty. All kinds of stuff falls off the car (Grommets, etc.), sensors fail regularly, and now the stereo system! Remember in the good 'ol days when your car's speakers would 'whine' with pitch matching the engine rpm. High pitch, high rpm; low pitch, low rpm. Well that problem has long been solved back in the 70's - you never hear anything like that in today's mass market cars (toyota, Infiniti, even Ford!.). But in my Maserati - on any given day - BAM - huge whine. Comes and goes. I can't get it fixed because it is not consistent, repeatable. It never happens when I am at the dealer, but only when I'm driving. A mild bump will set it off and a mild bump will stop it from happening. IT IS REAL ANNOYING. The whole stereo in this car is crap, but then again, when I drive the car, I am not much into listening to music. The sound of the engine and performance is the only music I am listening to. Beautiful, fun car - I'll never own another. My next car is the F430! masterlu 11-22-2006, 08:35 AM Drive an F430 if you have the chance, it is far & away the Best Sports Car I have ever owned or driven, including Murci's, Enzo's, CGT's & anything else. It's that Good! PHC1 11-22-2006, 08:55 AM In terms of reliability in "supercars" an Acura NSX is hard to beat. My friend has owned a '92 since '96 and it now has over 120,000 miles on it. Not one mechanical failure so far and he drives it real hard every chance he gets. Still tight as a drum, even though he has many suspension and engine mods on it. Not a car for the unexperienced drivers though as the vicious snap-oversteer can really bite you. www.records 11-22-2006, 09:11 AM Wow, you boys are talkin about some serious automobiles. Homey can't play those games. How bout posting some pics. I love fine cars, but live on a Jeep budget. PHC1 11-22-2006, 09:13 AM www.records, have you seen this thread? http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=89267 Sandy G 11-22-2006, 09:25 AM It would be interesting to see what the SOHC 412 cubic inch V-10 in the Valdez could do if it was in a reasonable sized car...Or even more if Ford's SVO operation would make a DOHC 4-valve version.... mzeitlin3348 11-22-2006, 09:51 AM I have driven the F430 - that's why I want one. Fantastic car. Duffinator 11-22-2006, 09:57 AM BTW, for those who want to know; my 2007 Porsche 997TT is the fastest of the three! IvanAnd probably the least expensive. Porsche's are more in my budget than a Ferrari but at 6'2" I don't fit in the Italian cars very well anyway. So you drove an Enzo? Was that some special track gathering for Ferrari owners? That must have been quite a thrill to drive that bad boy. Did you ever drive a Porshce Carrera GT? I saw one at the dealer but couldn't talk the sales guy into taking me for a spin. Duffinator 11-22-2006, 10:00 AM In terms of reliability in "supercars" an Acura NSX is hard to beat. It's like a tame Honda Civic until about 5,000 RPM's and then it really comes alive. But I wouldn't classify it as a supercar, especially if I've driven one! PHC1 11-22-2006, 10:12 AM I've driven the NSX. It's like a tame Honda Civic until about 5,000 RPM's and then it really comes alive. His is over 400hp, so it's not quite "tame as a Civic" and it gave my '01 Z06 a run for the money. Problem is my Z06 started having problems with just 4k on the odometer and I got rid of it. His Acura is still going strong, it is a "Honda" after all.:D PHC1 11-22-2006, 10:22 AM If I was spending that kind of cash on a car, I would have seriously tried to grab a Ford GT. That's one car that is sure to appreciate in the future. I'd be sure to check off the McIntosh option on the order as well!:thmbsp: Holst 11-22-2006, 10:55 AM For the rest of us, how about McIntosh and the 98 Olds Achieva, masterlu 11-22-2006, 12:34 PM And probably the least expensive. The Carrera GT is way too uncomfortable & strange to drive. Give it gas off the line in 1st & it stalls, it requires no gas in 1st after that it drives like a normal stick. The Enzo is awesome but also too exotic for it's own good IMO. Besides, I only buy new. Duffinator 11-22-2006, 01:03 PM I'm 6'2" & fit just fine. I have something against "yellow" Porsches. I was watching a rally and all the yellow Porsches crashed! That's just not right. Sandy G 11-22-2006, 01:39 PM Yeah, well, look at it this way...You could be toolin' around in a Yugo or a Gremlin instead of the Volvo...Count yer blessings...<grin> Vinyl Rules! 11-22-2006, 01:46 PM I have something against "yellow" Porsches. They'll know every single time you're in the 'hood! And the Harley will be less expensive than the Porches, and some would say more fun. rlrct 11-22-2006, 02:01 PM And the Harley will be less expensive than the Porches, and some would say more fun. ... and you'll have money left over for more McIntosh equipment. onepixel 11-22-2006, 02:44 PM lol...sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining or mad or anything. I just realized and found it amuzing. The wagon is great for loading up big ass speakers, hauling hordes of my daughter's screaming friends and it even has a surfboard/bike rack! And will still beat the pants off most cars. :D Duffinator 11-22-2006, 02:52 PM And the Harley will be less expensive than the Porches, and some would say more fun. :cool:I don't know about that. I thought that was sort of strange that they were even in the same building anyway. Sandy G 11-23-2006, 05:08 PM Ivan, do you do any of the simple stuff-washing, waxing, changing oil, etc, yourself? I've spent many a happy day "bonding" w/my rides...washing, waxing, detailing... I do my own detailing, but let the mechanics change the oil. I used to always change the oil in my Countach, maybe it's a sign of getting older? I enjoy my Cars & Hi-Fi gear equally, I frequently bounce back & forth from the garage to the Theater. :thmbsp: |
