After seeing the like a rock tour I cant bring myself to spend hard earned cash to see him again. Possible the worse concert I have ever seen in my life.

Have to be Grumpy's disciple here. I saw him in the '70s (you know, back when "Like a Rock" was a song, not two decades worth of Chevy truck ads. Those were still better than the new ones by Mellencamp, which miraculously manage to pander to every group in the country in 30 seconds, but I digress). I'm betting his guitarist was a high school buddy. Definitely the worst lead guitarist I've ever seen.

Last time I saw him he was the second bill on a Bachman Turner Overdrive show and did all the "Live Bullet" stuff.

I liked it  :thmbsp:

I'd rather be burned alive than ever hear anything by him.

Not that he needs your forgiveness. Just your hard-earned money.

I really liked his video that was a fake movie video -- does anyone know what song that was for? I really need to see it again. It was done in the style of those stupid movie videos, where they intersperse scenes from the movie with scenes of the artist performing, only the movie didn't exist. Had a big name cast, too, IIRC.

Wow, yeah No joke, tough crowd :thmbsp: I like Seger...the title of this thread is related to a thread that I posted about Bob not touring or putting out an album in way too long...anyway, the video was "Old Time Rock & Roll" and the movie was Risky Business....here's the vid if ya like:

Before he was played on every station 24/7 I liked him. The last time I purposely spun some seger was......Hell I can't really remember.

Man, Bob was great in the mid 70's. I spent many hours partying to "Silver Bullet Band Live". Don't get much better then that for a live album. It's good to hear he's got a new one with good reviews. Some people must have "unresolved issues".

Yeah, no shit, his new CD is terrific. Live Bullet is one of the best LIVE albums ever.

I heard a few tunes off that album and they were mediocre at best.

Nothing special. And nothing worth plunking down my hard earned cash for.

Comparing Bob now to the Bob of the 70's is ludicrous.

I actually saw Bob around the time Live Bullets came out. It was a great show. Opened for Blue Oyster Cult, or maybe it was the other way around - Hell, I don't remember. I do remember a Nutbush City Limit jam where first a sax solo, then drums, then lead guitar taking it to a climax. When it couldn't get any "higher", with the lead guitar, the spotlight flashed to the top of one of the speaker columns, and there was the sax man again, takin' it up yet another notch: "over the top!!". We were blown away... Some guys in front of us had these progressively larger and larger cigarettes...I don't know..

...anyway, the video was "Old Time Rock & Roll" and the movie was Risky Business...Uh, no, it was not from an existing movie. It was made to look like one, but it wasn't. I think it was from the 1985-1986 timeframe, now that I think about it.

Early Seger is great! From the '70s:
Seven, Beautiful Loser, and of course Night Moves.
His later stuff is soft and mushy.

Ditto, Grump, although my last time was a few weeks ago.
Kegger was over and I played a side of "Smokin' OPs" for him.

That's some good old rock 'n' roll there !!:music:

:D Thats a good one man!! Never heard Bob Seeger. What a kidder!!

I just want to say I'm glad he had one more chance at the bigtime. He must be getting pretty old. I'd say in his 80's. I mean his work with Woody Guthrie was back in the 40's I think. Then there was the Weavers in the 50's.:smoke: The good 'ol Beatnick scene goes back a ways. I really like the live recordings he did with Arlo Guthrie at Carnegie Hall. What a great banjo player and story teller!! Maybe the guy who said it was the worst concert that he ever saw just can't apreciate the mellow vibe of Folk music. :scratch2:

Also I thought "Like A Rock" was by Michael McDonald..........:thmbsp:

Musta seen Seger at a stadium show at Folsom Field in Boulder. One of those deals where they tossed about 7 bands and the wall to see what sticks. I think that was the show where a guy named Henry Gross did a song called "Shannon" that was an ode to his drowned Irish Setter. Dumb dogs, dumber song. And John Sebastian, rather than playing the best of Lovin' Spoonful, opened with "Welcome Back, Cotter." He (deservedly) got booed. At least it wasn't Styx and REO. Being young and stupid, we followed the "no coolers" rule, and it was about 90 degrees in the sun. Girls in front of us had a cooler full of beverages, sandwiches, pies. They wouldn't give us a slice of their pie, in any respect. I think the Doobie Bros were the headliner, and they made it worthwhile.

This was supposed to be a joke! I guess no one caught on to the intentional mistake. Or else everyone was too kind to embarrass me in calling out my evident ignorance.....Whatever happened is no matter. I rally am glad Bob Seger's new effort is going down well with everyone. If I thought his sound still had the feeling that "Ramblin/Gamblin Man"(??) brings to mind I would purchase the new stuff. Dont get me wrong. Nothing wrong with an artist moving on with the times, but I am one of those who tends to always like early work better with most artists.

I like the way Axel Rose does "Turn the Page" by Seger, or was it Metallica? Anyhow he does it better the Bob. Wifey really really likes him so I play him once in awhile, she is a country music person, all about the lirics she says.
I disagree!!
cheers Wolfgang

Wolfgang,
It was Metallica. They do a nice version of the song on "Garage Inc".

Bob did two or three shows in Grand Rapids MI like a month ago. I guess they sold out in fifteen minutes, so they set a second. I Guess that sold out too. So they might still be on the road.

Tough crowd, indeed.

Is he SRV?, ah no - but if you like to dance  Bob Seger laid down some nice tunes.

"Turn the Page" is an anthem, IMO.

I'll be getting my new Seger CD from Santy Claus.

Played 'em maybe once or twice...yeah, major burn out after The Distance. Bought Like A Rock a year or two later out of duty more or less. Live Bullet still kills IMO, but it may be another year or two before I listen to Seger album again, much less buy one.

Besides, this one features a lot of duets, including one with Skid Rock :boring:

I'll pass.
