Tonite, with the help of my sister, maureen , we organized my cd collection.

I have 53 Dylan cds,35 Neil Young cds, 15 Richard Thompson cds, 30 Van Morrison, and 16 Tom Waits. Then there are 8 Joe Henrys. It took us 4 hours to put them in alphabetical orders.

I didn't realize I had so many,I coulda bought a second car,not as much fun though

I'm almost there. I have my 500 or so LPs organized on shelves. And I have a special storage closet where I built shelves into the wall to hold about 1500 cds. I have about 700 or so in there organized alphabetically by genre. But I have ton of others that are in boxes waiting to be labeled/sorted. It's a never ending process. I really need to cull a bunch out. I might do that and start a new music box collection.

Congrats on a "no small feat" Alan.

Speaking of organizing music collections, I just bought the CATtraxx software this past weekend and have started inputting the information on my LP's. It will be chore.

At present I have about 500 but I think the damn things multiply when I'm not paying attention. :D

In the early 80's I started keeping a card catalog of my LP/Cassette collection. Over the years that has expanded into a database I wrote using MS Access. Currently I have 2500+ LP/s, 1000+ CD's/SACD/DVD-A's and 150 cassettes with all songs and artist information entered and listed in my database. All my recordings are filed library style by the artists last name or band name. I keep my classical stuff separate but it's filed by the composers last name. I originally started the card catalog because I couldn't always remember what I had. The air was sometimes quite smokey back then. It's even harder to remember now (I'm old and my collection is larger) so the database has come in very handy.:smoke:
