The Talking Heads are one of my favorite bands, ever. Their albums "Fear of Music", "Remain in Light", and "Speaking in Tongues" are true classics that I never get tired of.

The Heads entire catalog was remastered in 2004 with, by all accounts, greatly improved sound.

The trouble is, they first reissued them as "dualdiscs", CD on one side and DVD on the other. But many people have complained of playability and other quality control issues with dualdiscs. And I just have a 2-channel system so I don't want or need the 5-channel DVD side.

Convential single side CD versions were released at the same time. But surfing around online stores (Amazon, half.com, CD Universe, etc.) it is impossible to tell which releases are which. The sites don't specify, or all they have are the dualdisc versions.

WHERE can I find new or decent used copies of these albums that are definitely the 2004 remasters, but NOT the dualdisc versions?

In a related question, when I see a 2006 Japanese version, is it likely that this is the remastered version?

What I'm going to do is order the import versions -- CD and DVD-A on separate disks.

Please let me know when and if you find a good source for these!

Thanks for reminding me that I haven't listened to the Talking Heads for some time. Just tossed on Disc 1. Listening to 'Sugar On My Tongue'. I received the 1-DVD/3-CD "Once in a Lifetime", which comes packed in a book, for Xmas '04 and have never had any problems with the playback on these single-layer discs. 55 cuts on the CDs and 13 additional video works on the DVD. Remastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering. He did a good job.
