Just picked up a 1990 Mitsu 27" from the Salavation Army for $15.

Not something I would usually bother with but this was one of their better ones with Stereo and multiple inputs including S Video.

It has a classic woodgrain cabinet but the difference is that this one uses real wood:D

The Vertical was partly collapsed to about 8" across the center, I figured this is a bad cap, well, more like a dozen bad caps!

You can see little stains under about a dozen small lytics that have oozed their liquid onto the chassis.
I found one of the culprits in the vertical section by touching a sub to the board underneath. Replaced that one cap and now I have a full screen but the linearity is way off on the top half of the screen.

Think I should just shotgun in a dozen caps and see what happens or toss it now?

When I bought my 51" HDTV I was little surprised to see it was mostly made outta wood (I assume particle board) painted black, weird after hefting so many plastic TV's over the years.

Mitsu seems to be partial to wood.
I remember their sets from the late 70's early 80's were made out of wood too.

Come to think of it so were some of their Airplanes :D

you have more bad caps to find.
also clean off any brown glue that may be on the foil side or on component leads.
that is still a decent set if the crt is good.
bet it looks a funny blue/purple when it is off.
some weird antiglare treatment.
