I like Carly, so when I saw a sealed copy of "Come Upstairs" for 99 cents at GW, I picked it up.
This record has Tony Levin on Bass and Rick Marotta on drums. Even they can't save the songs on this POS.
Jesse - Should have been my first warning sign.
Do not bring more.

What's the release year of that? Usually I like her later jazzier stuff now that she's gotten out of her James Taylor phase (and to think, she could have had me!).

Thanks. What's your detailed review of it? What don't you like?

Not worth the effort to go into detail. I'd be happy to send you the album if you'd like to review it...

I like some of her earlier stuff, but she's always been prone to histrionics. I'm not much for emoting, or over the top stuff in general. And lord knows, with the American Idol phenomenon, it's strongly encouraged.

Well, I finally listened to the entire thing last night. The back side seems "pop"-ier than the front, but I've always enjoyed her voice. I'll have to spin it a few more times to say if it's remmemberable or not.
On the offhand - the Nicolette Larson is totally forgettable. Her voice has no range or depth. She was just eye-candy back then, a wanna-be.
De gustibus non est disputandum.
Come Upstairs is one of my favorite Carly Simon albums (of which I own 15 or so). :D

I've always liked Carly's earlier stuff particularly. I'd have liked it even without the bra-less "No Secrets" cover OR the "Playing Possum" chemise :-) I've had several of her 1970's albums since they were new, and Mrs. H had "Come Upstairs" from our pre-nuptial days. As I recall, it's a decent album. FWIW, I thought the song "Jesse" was/is a pretty good pop song.
Thanks to a recent dump find, I have acquired several later Carly Simon albums that 1) I'd never heard of and 2) yet to listen to.
(speaking of Nicolette Larson...) Of course, I also seem to own every album that the late Laura Brannigan ever recorded -- so you can take that into account when you weigh the veracity of my critical comments :-)

Seems like I remember Nicolette is taking her Eternal Dirt Nap, as well as Laura.

And since when did that stop you, Sandy?

I saw a sealed copy the other day for a buck and thought about buying it till this memory popped up and I recalled your warning. So the siren sang in vain this time.

I dunno, there's just something sultry about Carly Simon's voice and vocal style. Her "Coming Around Again" release is my favorite, along with the Greatest Hits Live done on the beach at Cape Cod.

Yes Laura Brannigan died of a ruptured aneurysm and Nicolette Larson of cancer, IIRC.
