i'm on the lower end of $3000 to $5000.. so this choice fit the bill best. This is main system only.. i have a few other's, but the question was for main rig only.

I know of several people that would actually go well over that amount here at AK.
And if I had the spare $$$, I would too.

mine including media is probably 15k +
Well since a number of things in my system were given to me or I rebuilt them $750 covers it.
Most of that was to purchase the power amp and have EW rebuild it :thmbsp:
Once I get the other Spec 2 put in place that figure goes up to around $1700

Rotel RA-840BX amp :$10

As you might guess, I'm a hardcore audio scrounger. I actually have better stuff than above waiting in the wings, just don't have it set up yet.

Hmmmm.........through judicious shopping, etc., I guess I could almost call it an investment. But, is more than I thought it would be once I started adding it up. In fact, I am right on the ragged edge of rolling over into the next higher bracket (ouch!). Oh, well. Sound is wonderful and I have a great time with it. Worth every cent to me.

Thanks for asking, I was looking for a chance to show off.:D
I just downsized the system to a all digital system and it is still well over $25,000. The speakers are Mcintosh XRT30s, the bass cabinets are not here yet those are the mid/high coulmns. The left rack is:
Mcintosh MVP851: Used as transport and DVD video player.
Shunyata Hydra 8: With silver faceplate removed and a McIntosh logo in its place.
McIntosh MC501: The best amp I have ever heard.
The right rack is:
Apex TV: Crap, I got it for free in a work contest.
Sony VCR: Also crap but it still works.
McIntosh MDA1000: This D/A converter is so good I decided to give up my LPs.
McIntosh MC501: They are mono, you got to have 2.
The cables are: MIT Oracle 2.1 speaker cables. Audioquest Chetta interconnect. Guerrilla digital cable (Guerilla cables are fantastic and cheep, I recomend giving this Audiokarma sponsor a try, see link at bottom of page for a 10% discount) 5 Shunyata Python power cables.
I'm in heaven when I listen to this system, I have been into audio since I was 12 and I never imagined I would have a system this good. I'm one lucky music lover.:music:

Yamaha YP-D4 TT: $30
Insignia speakers from BB: $49.95
Kenwood dual 12 band eq: free
misc cables, etc: unknown, probably less than $20.
mp3 player: free
40 gig hard drive upgrade for said free mp3 player: $30
new batteries for mp3 player: $10
cheapie RCA 5 disc cd changer: gift, was probably less than $70 new.

That is so unGodly it should be illegal. What a great looking setup! Someday I'll have Mac gear, too. We po' boys on AK envy stuff like yours and many of us hope to even HEAR a system like that. Kind of like maybe oneday the car salesman will let us SIT in the Corvette. I hope you don't listen to Hip-hop! Or you get "The icepick in the forehead".

Not including the HT gear, all the digital recording and minus the plasma my main system adds up to around $2500-$3000 roughly.
Not alot of bucks to have good sound. A dream realized that took many years to complete and reach.

Well over $10k but less than $15k. Instead of "bragging" I'd say admitting this makes me feel like an idiot- much was purchased before I discovered A'gon.:tears: More of my stuff was purchased at near-full-retail than I care to admit.:sigh:
At least I've seen the light now! I still love the smell of freshly unpacked electronics, but I'm more than happy to give that up to let some other guy take the 25%-50% hit on MSRP.
If media counted I'd be waaaay over the $25k mark!

Thanks Rick,
A few years ago I thought just like you, that I would never even hear a system this good. I have been living cheep for years (note the rabbit ears) then I decided I need at least one bad habit so I went crazy with the stereo system and I have not looked back. As many here know you can build an fantastic stereo system for cheep if you do your research. But for me it was worth the expense to try and get the last iota of ultimate detail and resolution, that the old law of diminishing returns tells us costs a bundle.
And no I don't listen to Hip-hop. My favorites over the years have been classic rock and blues. Lately I have been really getting into jazz and a little classical.
Here are some updated pics with the bass cabinets in the system.
Come on fellow music lovers, I want to see pics of your system. I can't be the only one here proud of my system. I don't care if it cost $100 or $100,000 I would like to see it.:thmbsp:
