I'm just wondering--how much damage would I be doing if I fell asleep while my record is playing and the stylus ends up riding around in the run-out groove for an hour or so?
Not saying it happens. Just wondering how guilty I should feel should I ever let a bit of music lull me to sleep. :D
Edit--darn bad grammar.

My bet is that it would add an hour of wear to your needle.

Yep, about an hours worth of wear on your stylus.
Now, if you were Rip Van Winkle, it could be a problem.

Yep. That inner groove is a...groove. While there's certainly an audible click as the stylus passes the point where the lead-in joins, it isn't quite the cannons on the 1812 Overture.

Can any one recommend any of the auto lift devices?
There is a guy now on eBay selling some cheap vintage spring loaded contraption made in Switzerland but looks like junk. Asking $91 USD for 3 NOS in blister packs. I believe that there was a vintage AT one but don't know how well it worked or whether it is easy to find for that matter.

It was called the Audio Technica "Safety Raiser" and works like a champ. Have it on my AR - XA in storage. Cost new under $20 if memory serves me so $91 is ?

There's one for sale on the 'bay right now, if you want one doc. I wouldn't mind having one myself, but $41 seems a little rich for my blood.

A lot for a old $20 device, but one sold earlier this month for $97!

I think for that kind of money I'll just let my stylus ride around in the groove. Heck, the stylus I'm using cost less than that.
The Audio Technica Safety Raiser works like a charm...I've got one on each of my AR TTs. The going rate is about $100 each, if you can find one.

I could use one, but not for a C-note. I'm generally pretty good about lifting the stylus, But I have come down the next morning and the platter is still spinning. :sigh: Time to find another switched outlet somewhere.
