View Full Version : Snow in Denver cubdog 12-20-2006, 09:37 AM It started about an hour ago. They are calling for 1 inch per hour for the next 20 hours. Maybe a few more inches after that. cubdog Reel 2 Reel 12-20-2006, 09:56 AM Holy chit!!... good thing I dont have to drive through that ... at least two days from now it probly will be 70... Thats the thing about living out there ...very dynamic weather.. Anyway ...snows good for the economy up in them thar hills! :D cubdog 12-20-2006, 09:59 AM It's coming down sideways at the moment. 7 degree wind chill. cubdog ekimetsok 12-20-2006, 10:08 AM Snow in Denver? Who'da thunk? http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing20.gif Parky50 12-20-2006, 10:11 AM It's coming down sideways at the moment. 7 degree wind chill. cubdog Yeah.... keep your snow on your side of the street Ross, looks like we better fuel up the snow blowers !!! ;) Sandy G 12-20-2006, 10:12 AM Sposed to be 60 here. We MAY get some rain this evening. I'd give my eyeteeth for a little snow at Christmas...There are some kids here who have NEVER seen a REAL snowfall-the last one we had of an consequence was in '98, IIRC. cubdog 12-20-2006, 10:13 AM Actually Denver gets very little snow. Winters are typically mild with lots of sunshine. But once every couple of years when conditions are right we get hammered. Apparently conditions are right today. cubdog Reel 2 Reel 12-20-2006, 10:19 AM There are some kids here who have NEVER seen a REAL snowfall. Why couldnt'ave I been one of those lucky ones!!...:sigh: steve gibson 12-20-2006, 10:42 AM Cubby, it is dry and 40 degrees in your old home town. They say we may get some rain but no snow. I am actially jealous. I would like to see a little for the holidays. wajobu 12-20-2006, 10:45 AM Yeah, we were in Denver last Christmas and it was nearly 70 degrees in Cherry Creek and environs...we went for a walk in our shirtsleeves on Christmas Day! Fast_Eddie 12-20-2006, 10:58 AM It's hard for a system to bring us a lot of snow in Denver because the usual west to east progression is hampered by the mountains. This one came up from the south. That's pretty unusual, but also the patern that brings us the most snow. This one is a whopper. If you want to check in on us, check out our web site http://www.cbs4denver.com I'm in the office this morning but will get out while I still think the '72 Capri with snow tires will make it. I actually get around just fine in this stuff until it gets so deep it hits the bottom of the car. We're going to get that with this one so I'll have to get out when I can. Take care, Ed rickr15 12-20-2006, 11:13 AM Probably connected with the cold cell thats passing through here. It's been down in the 20's at night. The last two days are the first time I have had to scrape my windshield in the morning since I left Colorado. cubdog 12-20-2006, 05:33 PM Well I left work today at 1:40. I have a 7 mile drive home, 6 miles of which are on the interstate. It took me 2 hours and 50 minutes. Needless to say I'm now having a glass of wine. cubdog Fast_Eddie 12-20-2006, 06:00 PM Glad you made it home Ross. I left before you. The old Capri wasn't up for any more. I did make it home, but it was a struggle. I'm looking out the window- there has to be more than a foot of snow in Denver right now and it's still coming. On top of that, I'm sick. I just woke up from a nap and my throat is so sore I can hardly talk. Oh well, it is pretty! Take care, Ed Reel 2 Reel 12-20-2006, 06:00 PM like i said before...Holy Chit!! kcollins4 12-20-2006, 06:00 PM My youngest daughter goes to school at Adams St. in Alamosa, and had their coach not cancelled practice scheduled for yesterday, she might not have made it here for Christmas. They drove to Albuquerque in heavy snow Monday night. (2 teenage girls following two more teenage girls) All they could see was the tire tracks of the cars in front. She caught a flight out on Tuesday at 1PM after a one hour delay (de-iciing the plane). Finally picked her up at a Houston airport at 4PM. Looks like she got out just in time. Glad she made it! Due to basketball, hasn't been home in 4 months. Definitely makes the holiday special. fropiler 12-20-2006, 06:09 PM Seems like we can't buy a decent snowstorm around here anymore. I'm Jealous. Reel 2 Reel 12-20-2006, 06:16 PM you can have all mine...:D Fast_Eddie 12-20-2006, 06:50 PM I just shovled a bit. Didn't get far. It's easly 18". Maybe more. Hard to gauge with the drifts. I got the front porch done and about a quarter of the way down the walk. Man, I really am not feeling well. That was about all I could do. I'll have at it again in a little bit. I'd love to get this couple of feet gone so when I get up tomorrow it's a reasonable amount. fropiler 12-20-2006, 06:53 PM you can have all mine...:D You have snow? We're looking to snowmobile... cubdog 12-20-2006, 07:01 PM I just shovled a bit. I'll send Carol over in the morning. cubdog Reel 2 Reel 12-20-2006, 07:14 PM Nope ...no snow here ...and it can stay that way! I guess theres a 30% chance of a light dusting for X-mas......bummer ...i was hoping for a 100% chance ... Of green X-mas. jguzman21 12-20-2006, 11:20 PM I went out a couple of hours ago and shoveled 10.5" and its all covered again. It is really friggin' snowing!! -j Sandy G 12-21-2006, 07:16 AM You mean that song,"Please Come To Boston" was wrong when it said, "Please Come To Denver for the Snowfall"...damn, I'm crushed. BTW, the artist, Dave Loggins was from Bristol, TN/VA, & is a cousin to Kenny Loggins. cubdog 12-21-2006, 07:37 AM 6am and still snowing! Just lightly coming down now but I'm not going anywhere. It's going to take most of the day to dig out. cubdog Parky50 12-21-2006, 08:09 AM I just heard the 35-45 MPH winds are not going to stop up here until early afternoon... no use trying to dig out until that dang wind stops... Ya'll be careful, it's 1 degree out there with the current wind chill !!! :yikes: cubdog 12-21-2006, 08:26 AM Stay warm Mike! cubdog tentoze 12-21-2006, 08:32 AM Stay safe, you folks. Looks nasty out there. cubdog 12-21-2006, 09:00 AM We have around 18 to 20 inches at our house. The problem is that the wind caused major drifts everywhere. Plus it is still snowing. The airport is shutdown with thousands stranded. There is a very slight possiblity that some flights may get out tonight but I doubt it. I'm going to head out later this morning to start digging out. It will take all day I'm sure. cubdog BULLWINKLE 12-21-2006, 09:15 AM My cul-de-sac is drifted in so no work today. Wife and I went for a walk yesterday out through the wild area behind our house. It was great! Had to use ski poles and gators. Lots of drifting and boy was the wind ferocious. HeHeHeee! Snow sure makes the xmas lights pretty. Merry Christmas everyone!! Brien brainsmasher 12-21-2006, 09:28 AM This mornings pictures. Probably 20 inches as an average down at the south end of town. I think the least of our worries are the wipers sticking to the windshield. yamahammer 12-21-2006, 09:29 AM :worthless yamahammer 12-21-2006, 09:29 AM CRAP a little slow on the request for the pics Fast_Eddie 12-21-2006, 09:34 AM Holy Crap! Woke up this morning and WOW! It kept snowing all night! This makes yesterday look like a cake walk! I'm pretty sure the old Capri isn't getting out today. Take care, Ed Duffinator 12-21-2006, 10:00 AM Enjoy your white Christmas in Colorado. cubdog 12-21-2006, 10:33 AM Just finished round 1 of digging out. My earlier estimate of 18 to 20 inches may have been wishful thinking. I know it was knee deep in my driveway. cubdog Fast_Eddie 12-21-2006, 10:38 AM It's really hard to say how much it is. It was so windy it's drifted a lot. The snow is very light and powdery- at least not too hard to shovel. Still, I'm taking it in three lifts for each chunk. It seems like not as much as we had in the last blizzard- was that 2003? But it's still snowing. I can't believe that! It has to stop soon. They say it could go 'till noon which is still two and a half hours. RichPA 12-21-2006, 10:45 AM Wow, guys, just saw some pics of Denver. Take care of yourselves out there! Fast_Eddie 12-21-2006, 10:50 AM Wow, guys, just saw some pics of Denver. Take care of yourselves out there! Isn't going to be a lot of "out there" around my house. We're snowed in but good. My wife's 4Runner is in the body shop and I can't even imagine when we'll be able to get the Capri out again. We're flying to Cincinnati on Monday, or at least we're supposed to. I hope by then I'm mobile again. Take care, Ed cubdog 12-21-2006, 10:51 AM Just as a point of reference we got 38 inches at our house in 2003. We have a tile roof on our house and the snow was sliding off in huge chunks. It ripped my sattelite dish right off the side of the house. At work where we have a flat roof it commpressed the ceiling by 3 inches! we could tell by the sprinkler heads that were no longer flush with the ceiling. So at least this one is not that bad. cubdog BULLWINKLE 12-21-2006, 11:09 AM Just went out in my jeep and wandered around within 1 mile of my house. Saw 14 cars abandoned and 1 jeep stuck. Headed back home and put the jeep in the garage. Only about a foot here in Colorado Springs but the wind built some amazing drifts. Not one business was open. No need to go out this am. The wife and I will go out on another walk early this pm. YeHaaa! gonzp 12-21-2006, 11:11 AM I just finished blowing my driveway, neighbor lady's driveway our 2 walks. That 8HP blower sits idle most of the time but it sure comes in handy at times like this. We didn't quite get the accumulation you guys got in Denver but you know how it drifts here in the windy mecca.:thumbsdn: Ross I been trying to call you this AM and your home phone goes right to voice. old_tv_nut 12-21-2006, 11:16 AM We're on the right side of the cyclone here, so getting warmer than usual and rain. They're predicting when it does move it will go northeast, so we will miss the bad stuff - but you never know for sure with these slow-moving lows. Fast_Eddie 12-21-2006, 11:21 AM I think some of us are going to significantly add to our post whore counts today. What else is there to do?! We're gong to let the kids open a Christmas present early. We got them Dance Dance Revolution for the Gameqube. Of course, my wife and I already tried it out! lol. That thing is more fun that you can imagine!! Take care, Ed cubdog 12-21-2006, 11:21 AM I'll give you a call Patrick. PM your number in case I can't find it. cubdog doctorbongo 12-21-2006, 11:31 AM I'm in Canon City, and we got a couple dozen flakes. Ten miles east of here they got 8 inches. There was a bubble over Canon City, which broke up, then another one formed right over us. It's really bizarre, but I get to drive into it to see my family. Hopefully by about tomro night at this time, the roads will be as dry as the ground is here. DIA won't be open until about noon Friday. Hopefully by about tomro night at this time, the roads will be as dry as the ground is here. DIA won't be open until about noon Friday. You're kidding! That's heard to believe! Man, could have used a bubble like that over Denver! DougMac 12-21-2006, 12:34 PM Had to use ski poles and gators. How did you get them to stay still long enough to strap them on, or were they on a leash? Oh! I guess (hope) you used gaiters! Doug Sandy G 12-21-2006, 01:46 PM Hell, it's 55-60 here, & the only percipertation WE gonna get is rain...We'll be wadin' mud for Christmas...'bout like we do EVERY year.. BULLWINKLE 12-21-2006, 02:52 PM :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :D fabvsix 12-21-2006, 05:06 PM My sister lives in Longmont north of Denver on 40 acres. Her husband was trapped in the hospital safely. I asked what she does being that she couldn't go anywhere (snowed in...)? Watch TV and rest. She is a midwife who works at Denver General in OB running the show.....I told her you can have that snow! Duffinator 12-21-2006, 05:15 PM I told her you can have that snow!Yeah the rain today if refreshing. Just like Northern California should be at Christmas time. :thmbsp: fabvsix 12-21-2006, 05:22 PM I think I'd prefer those blue skies and lower temps....Not too fond of rain or snow..... Fast_Eddie 12-22-2006, 03:05 PM Nice day today. Warm enough for a huge melt off to start. I'm getting around again in the '72 Capri and the main roads are somehting similar to passable. The residential streets are nasty, but the snow tires on the old '72 Capri are holding their own. One bad move would ruin my day, but so far so good. I'm only a block off a main street so I should get out and about ok. I did have to take a detour to get around a stuck SUV on my street up a couple of blocks, so deeper into the neighborhood than I wanted to go. Still, I made it back just fine and think I'll stay here for a few hours. Take care, Ed How 'bout the rest of you guys? Get out of the house yet? BULLWINKLE 12-22-2006, 04:09 PM out and about here in Colorado Springs. Only about a foot total. It is the drifts that are a problem but, starting to melt. e2e4c7c5 12-23-2006, 01:20 PM Snow in Denver? I started laughing when I thought that I had just posted this! That was just a nice Christmas dusting. As our Priest at Church said, it would be perfect Christmas snow, if it wasn't on top of three feet! It has been warmish the last couple of days. Had to be 40 yesterday. There's a LOT of snow to melt, but that got us started anyway. Take care, Ed |
