I see there's a larger than expected range of serial numbvers on the 16.5's. Has anyone looked at the other models to compare the number sequencing?
Just curious

As you will know, we have compiled a small database of 16.5 serial numbers (http://audiokarma.org/forums/showpost.php?p=936523&postcount=11) - the only AK ones I am aware of that we are missing are Bully and AcidMike (if you guys read this, please submit yours to me by PM). To my knowledge, no similar database has been compiled for the other Concept amps here or elsewhere. If one were to do it, it would be easy enough - just go the the Concept Club poll (http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=90951) and email/PM those registered in each amp class. If you decide to to it, Marko, we can always consolidate our data and make a separate thread out of it, to make it easier for the AK Search function to find it. Rgds, Marko 12-30-2006, 01:46 AM Thanks! I was simply wondering if the serial numbers on the other models of Concepts just got sequenced into the same number stream as they rolled along in production....like maybe 100 model 11.0's got made between your 16.5 serial number and my 16.5 ....and the those numbers just got added to the on-going Concept account, which we think at this point only belongs to the 16.5 ... ....know what I'm saying? My own 11.0 is being borrowed by my Sister-in-Law, so I can't check it's serial number out. Perhaps someone else could check the serial number(s) on their units and report(?) I know it's a kind of a longshot thought, but I'm just curious enough to ask the question about sequential numbering, just in case, I've seen wierder things happen when folks subcontract work out to be done, especially in some other country. be well Marko Njord Noatun 12-30-2006, 02:39 AM ....know what I'm saying? I know exactly what you mean. I was wondering the same and have brought the topic of whether serial numbers were sequenced exclusively by model, or if they were cross-sequenced, in a roundabout way with Richard Schram in one of our recent discussions. He did not respond directly to my somewhat indirect question - I do not think his primary involvement was with the economics and production of the Concept gear as much as it was with product development, and he may not know the ins and outs of Concept serial numbers. So I think we're on our own here and that we would need to do some detective work in terms of actually collecting serial numbers, as you suggest. Unless we find the identical serial number on two different models (low probability, due to the small samples), and even then, I guess we won't find fully conclusive evidence as to their numbering system. But a sampling would provide us with some guidance. The sampling of some "D" series digital receivers might add some value, too, as we know they were produced in a different factory - even a different country; Korea. Rgds, Marko 12-30-2006, 09:14 AM Thanks! Doesn't Vintagestereo have a couple of other Concept models? Maybe ask him to peek at their backsides? And yeah, maybe a different serial number approach for Korea. Good thinking. It would be good to know from the User persepective, and kind of fun , like the History Detective show on TV!...<g> be well Marko Njord Noatun 12-30-2006, 11:45 AM It would be good to know from the User persepective, and kind of fun , like the History Detective show on TV! I would suggest you PM the folks in the Concept Club poll and let the fun begin! :thmbsp: Again, once complete we could coordinate our databases, turn them into a new thread, and encourage new owners to submit their serials to keep the database dynamic. Good luck with it if you decide to go for it! Rgds, |
