I talked a friend of mine into buying a 402 this weekend.
The left meter is about 10dB off and we've changed speakers, and leads. Still the same meter. Of course the dealer doesn't work on Sundays, so does anyone know where the adjustments are in the 402?
I see the color adjustments, but I cannot find the meter adjustments. Am I going to have to remove the entire front?
Thanks

Are we talking about an MC402 amp, color adjustments?

Ivan , thanks for your reply. The mc-402 meters are just a little off. One has more movement than the other. It is the left meter

I bet it's the left meter that's down isn't it?
There is a plate on the top of the amp near the front glass. It's the one that has the words "McIntosh MC402 Power Amplifier" on it. Take off that plate and you'll find two dial pots near the top (their blue if memory serves..). They adjust the meter's level and do nothing to the actual output of each channel. Turn the left one (or the offending meter) clockwise and you'll be set.
When McIntosh first builds an amp and sets the meters they do it with the amp at full power (in your case 400 watts). Due to electrical parts not being EXACTLY the same tolerance (i.e.- 1% in this case) the further the power decreases the more "off" they can be.

Tom, Thanks for your reply. I tookthe top cover off and there was 4 blue adjustments (center of the amp) but they were for the color of the blue meter and the green display. they are 2 adjustment on the bottom. I found these after taking bottom plate off. I was able to adjust the one meter that was off, both now are showing same watts while being played.
