XR1052's...

There's a seller close buy for a local pickup. I'm currently using a pair of Energy Audissey A3+2s for my system driven by the MC2105 and C32 combo. After reading Roger Russell's review of the XR250s, I've set my sites on them, idealy, but am also considering the XR1052s.

Does anyone have any comments on said set of speakers?

Should I buy these damned things??

Damn this affliction of never having enough McIntosh gear!!
(seriously)

Good speakers, but they eat power and can be difficult to room match. In the shop where I worked they never sounded that good. Mostly boomy, little control no matter how we set them up. Your 2105 will get a workout, that's for sure. The 2255 and 7270 amps were pretty much the price of admission with these speakers. Two would be better.

The only time I've heard them sound really good was a pair the owner of the business had in his house.

That being said, they sounded great where the owner had them, you may be as lucky or persistant. Believe it or not, tiptoes under the speakers cleaned up the midrange. If I had a chance I'd pick up a pair to experiment with. The passive radiator was interesting, to say the least, typically that config is more efficient than most. Except in this case.

I've got my eye on a pair of 1051's (same speaker, different finish) that have been stored for over 13 years.
