Greetings,

I just found this forum and haven't even had a chance to lurk much.

I just inherited some really cool equipment from some friends:

McIntosh C29 Preamp
McIntosh MR78 FM tuner
McIntosh MC2002 Amp

They inherited it from a relative that passed away and got tired of messing with it and were going to throw it away!!! Allegedly it all works.

I have no idea if I can hook this rig up to my little PSB 300i 6 ohm speakers just to see if it works. Is that kosher? What speakers would pair well with this system? I'm not exactly rich so go easy please. Vintage would be preferred.

The units came with no cabinets or rails so I don't know what to do on that front.

At this point I just don't want to mess anything up as these are in good condition. I would like to use the equipment though.

One more thing. What about RCA interconnects?

Thanks - Trent

Try posting this question on the McIntosh Forum.

Sounds like you have some good stuff there!

Didn't even notice the McIntosh forum, I must be a little overexcited by the new gear.

Thanks for the heads up - Trent

I wish I had friends like that. Yes you can hook up your speakers to the system. Just be judicious with the power levels so as not to wipe out a speaker. As for speakers that mate well with the system. There are probably in excess of 15,000 models made over the years and you'll receive 20,000 recommendations. Speakers are the BIG variable in a system with so many different signatures. I'll go out on a limb and suggest finding a set of original Advents as a safe starting set that will do nicely while you audition the various types (dipoles, direct radiators, horns, electrostatics, and the list goes on) and once you sort of have an idea of the type of speaker, then audition brands/models within the classification. You may find that 2 different technologies give you 2 entirely different sounding speakers, each which you'll love. That's when things get interesting. I loved my Klipsch Cornwalls and JansZens - these sounded entirely different and to this day I never could figure out which gave me the sound I both heard live and enjoyed.
