I found a 1122DC integrated for sale locally for $185 canadian. It is in mint condition and if it sounds as good as it looks, it should be great!. 61 wpc is almost double what i'm currently packing, so it's more than plenty. it was produced in the late 70's(classic audio's page isn't loading for me right now so i can't get exact years), are Marantz's of this era(i'm guessing 1977-80ish) regarded quite as highly as earlier models? at least comparable to 22xx series receivers? that would make me happy...actually one of the main selling points for me is the pre-out main-in loop, as i was looking into triamping in the future and i could use it to insert a crossover.
any reliability issues, or worthy non-invasive mods? how is the phono stage? i noticed there are two phono inputs, does that mean there is an MC stage on phono 2? i've been wanting to try MC pickups for a bit but i didn't really want to lay out the dough for an MC preamp yet, this might be a way around that problem. is $185($160 US) a good price for this amp, or should i pass?
thanks

hey
if by chance this 1122dc is located in waterloo then it is a beauty, i've seen it. really nice. i've also heard these and they have wonderful sound. i do not think the asking price is too much. 61 wpc is tonnes. people pay double that for much weaker components on flea-bay, wherein you don't even get to see the unit and are basically rolling the dice on what you actually get. take a drive and audition it for yourself (if possible) or at least crack her open and inspect. if it is in tip-top shape then you won't be disappointed, esp. at that price IMHO.
as far as phono 2 - i do not believe it is a MC stage, just an additional.
also, late seventies marantz is choice - they were at the top of their game then IMO.
good luck!

thanks guys, i will try to check it out soon, multimeter in hand. i don't really equate power output with quality or performance....besides i favour efficient speakers anyway. the speakers i will eventually be driving are 96 dB so i imagine that i won't have much trouble with volume even if i hold an open keg party.
viva - no, this one's in markham...is there another for sale in waterloo? :scratch2:

although the price seems a bit high for only 60 wpc.
Try a Pioneer SA-9100 for price. . .Another 60wpc amp. . .Sold my last one for over 800.00 .There is a picture of it in our Gallery. . .
Meanwhile back at the 1122DC. . I did own a 1152DC (75wpc) very similiar and it was one of the best amps I have owned. . .I loved it. . .I'm sure the 1122DC is just as big a giant killer as the SA-9100 I mentioned earlier.. .
185.00 is nothing if it is right.

I noticed that 1122DC but...too rich for my blood. Price is right though. Last one on eBay went for around $240. You could easily get your money back or more if you ever decide to sell it. Sure looks like a nice unit. Saw one used in a church once as a PA amp...seemed like such a waste.
Hope you get it!:music:

ordinarily, i wouldn't pay this much money for a piece of audio gear given my current university-student situation, but i may be able to at least partially invoke a parental birthday-gift rain cheque. i was originally going to DIY my whole system, which i eventually will ...but if i compared the costs of even building a minimal minimal pre/phono/power setup to the cost of this amp, it would be cheaper to get the Marantz. that way i can get a 3-way stereo crossover sooner.

I run one as a pre-amp, because the output of one channel had a problem. I do not think it can handle a M/C coil as is. I might have some documentation on it, I'll look around later.
