I am very pleased with this score. Paid right around $70.00 and would have spent more if I had it on me at the time. There are plenty more good records available at this location for any vinyl lovers in the Atlanta area. Check it out if you get the chance!

Nice score!! I don't think there's that many decent titles in ALL the thrifts in the SE Michigan!
Sometimes you get lucky and are there the day somebodies well kept collection hits the bins, but those days are pretty near semi-annual events, if that often.

And I can't believe you found a copy of "After Bathing at Baxter's" or "Ummagumma"

Are these pretty hard to come by?

Well, they're no "Whipped Cream" or "A Star is Born"

They show up all the time on Ebay, but to find one in a thrift is a real stretch. True '60s psychedelic classics; check the gatefold for herbal residues :lmao:

Boy, you guys are really starting to make me drool. Maybe sometime(soon) I'll get a TT. All Ive got now is an EL CHEAPO Pioneer BPC with a bad cartridge. I would love to have a Concept 2QD or Setton TS-11. I hope to have the next one on eBay. I already have a good deal of records that were my dads that he gave me. Just have never really gotten into vynil.

'Lifes Rich Pageant' is in my opinion, REM's finest album.
'Metamorphosis' is an interesting Stones b-side, alt-take and unreleased sides collection which was released by their former manager, Allen Klein without their permission. Check out "Going Down". With a better vocal take this would've been a hit.
They learned of Brian Jones' death while recording "I Don't Know Why".

I just came from the Buford Goodwill and Barclay is dead on about this collection. I went through about 1000 LPs this morning. The overwhelming majority are in VG or better. There is a little of everything there. Lots of hair metal, prog rock, 80s new wave, 70s rock, and other similar stuff.

There is no remaining Elvis, Beatles, Stones, or Zeppelin.

I cleared out the remaining Blue Note jazz LPs, the Living Stereo classical LPs, the Ventures LPs, and Beatles solo LPs. I also picked up some punk and 80s alternative stuff that I did not have in decent condition. I think I got about 80 LPs.

Most of the vinyl at my local GW looks to have been used as large casters under heavy furniture once upon a time.

Nice find!

Some times it just comes down to luck. Went in last Saturday on my way to run some honey-dos. Next thing I knew I had a cart full of albums. Found many albums that I just do not see these days. Whole sets of Steve Miller, Grand Funk, James Gang, Moody Blues, and others. Those types of LP's do tend to fly out of the store quickly.

Funny how finding bunch of records is offset by long periods of that same place not having much at all. Sometimes all the Zeppelin albums like magic are there right next to Herb. Dave Mason did the old pop-up and what was missing I had. Heart did that too. The Guess Who collection appeared and ones I have never seen. Found a wonderful copy The Ozark Mountain Daredevils The Car Over The Lake Album. Went today and only walked away with one Bob Seger cassette for all my searching, you just never know.

Thanks, herbman. I went after work today. Still lots to be found. Among my finds:

Sarah Vaughan-In Hi-Fi, In the Land of Hi-Fi
Nick Lowe and The Cowboy Outfit
Dexter Gordon-Great Encounters
John McLaughlin-Devotion, My Goal's Beyond (Pork Pie Hat is a Favorite)
Art Tatum-Piano Starts Here
Aretha-Spirit in the Dark
Roger McGuinn-Cardiff Rose
Etta Jones-From the Heart
Fairport Convention-Liege and Lief
Commander Cody-Country Casanova (Smoke, smoke, smoke that cig!)
Elliott Murphy-Just a Story from America
And about 35 others.

Without a doubt, the best assemblage of Goodwill vinyl I've ever seen. It's funny, I've been to that store a couple of times without any luck. Guess I'll have to make room for it in my "rounds" now.

This summer, I had some extra time on my hands and decided to dig through some albums at a local Goodwill. Mostly, I skip over the records in my search for gear, as I'm not much of a Hugo Winterhalter fan.

I made a big score, though. Someone evidently passed away and their collection of records got donated. I bought about sixty - all pristine - mostly old-timey pre-war country, jazz and blues reissues from the late 70's and early 80's. There were a couple of older Newport Folk Festival albums on Vanguard and a couple of Smithsonian Folkways in there too. The stuff I left behind would have been a great score (mostly jazz and some decent classic rock I feel certain didn't come from the same collection).

Long story short, I tried to use that score as inspiration to keep digging through the vinyl bins. I largely haven't.

I usually see nothing in the thrifts but the Herb Alpert, Steisand, Mac Davis, Captain and Tennille junk but there were several nice albums in today at the local GW including Jimi Hendrix Experience, Quadrophenia, Physical Graffiti -- unfortunately the store recognized their value and these copies were marked-up in price to 6.99 or 7.99.

I kept looking through stacks and I was rewarded with a practically mint copy of Crosby, Stills, & Nash - the cover fresh cardboard with very little signs of handling and the record is in great shape too. :tresbon:

Maybe there are alot of copies of this album available (after all it went GOLD) but I've never seen such a clean copy of a 38 year old album. I have Deja Vu (in good shape through the years in a protective plastic dust cover) but never had this one since my siblings always had copies, so it's nice to add to my collection (for 99 cents). I also picked up a clean copy of Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark for 99 cents. Apparently when GW gets a good collection, the deals are out there. :thmbsp:

I think we're having a drought here. I must have bought 500 albums last year
in the six thrift stores on my route, but I haven't come up with ANYTHING since the new year. I might actually have to go to a record store to get a fix soon....

Wow, a "Liege and Leaf" too???????

I can't believe the others let it go!!

Quite nice score on a true classic.

John - great haul there amigo. While I'm disappointed in not making it up there for the vinyl, I'm even more disappointed that we couldn't work out our schedules to hook up and go to the GW together. Next time I'm in Atlanta, the first round is on me. Feel free to send me all that Blue Note stuff you tire of. :D

I am glad some local AKer's from the "ATL" made it over to the Buford Goodwill to check out this HUGE stack of vinyl. I thought it might be something special.

I wonder where all these came from? An old radio station or serious collector? A mystery... I wish I had more time and $ to have gotten them all, but I was in a rush and only had about $70 to spend. Ther is no telling what was picked out of there before I got to it. I prefer the well known and cheesy titles. There was a lot of Roger waters solo stuff and Elvis Costello if I remember right.

Be good to your Goodwill, and it will be good to you...

There are some really good finds in there. Is the Ummagumma the GIGI cover? Looks like you may have found a first pressing of "Are You Experienced"
Did somebody say "Blue Note"? The only collectible Jazz Record I have ever found was Down Beats Hall Of Fame from 1959. I picked up a copy of "All Things Must Pass" a couple of weeks ago. People must be dumping their copy in favor of the remaster.

I went back to Buford today to the Mall of Georgia to see 'Last King of Scotland' at the theatre. I took a "wrong turn" and somehow the lady friend and me ended up back at the Buford Goodwill.

Out of the well over 1000 records I saw there only days ago, there might have been 20 or 30 left - and all the usual crapola. The place had been cleaned out. The bottom shelf that ran the entire length of the wall that was filled to the bursting point with vinyl is now completely empty.

I have either underestimated the power of this forum, or the collectible market for used vinyl in the North Metro area. Glad I got there early, cuz this goes to show - here today, gone tomorrow.

Andyman, speaking of 'herbal residue'. A friend of mine picked up a Mother of Invention LP at a thrifts shop years ago, can't remember the title. Gatefold. Had it for almost a year when I popped over for a visit. Looking through his collection I pulled this album out opened it up and in the spine of the inside gatefold was a row of preserved vintage pot seeds. They were almost inbedded into the cardstock which is why they didn't fall out when opened. A very 'rare' version of this album for sure.
