Good morning and good day to all,
I put on real world artist's Larla o'Lionaird's-
"I could read the sky".what a great recording this is,
another fantastic release from Real World.
Im not sure how much Peter Gabriel has to do with
the artists that are "found"but they do a great job.
I treat real world like I treat ECM label recordings,
and buy blind when ever I see them used and have
never been disappointed.
Please list some of your favorite real world releases-
A couple more from me are-
Long walk home(soundtrack to"Rabbit proof fence")
Afro celt sound system-Volume 2"release"

I really like the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan material -- especially Night Song with Michael Brook and Mustt Mustt (anything Michael Brook is associated with, for that matter).
I need to get that new Little Axe disk...
Didn't realize so much of Joseph Arthur's catalog was on Real World...

Thanks for your response Dusty Chalk!
Incredible Pakastani sufi vocalist,I think the word is
Qwalli?I did see him perform once in seattle before
his death.I had a copy of MUSST-Musst and loved it
then the soundtrack for the film"Dead Man Walking"
was released(not on real world)where Nurat fateh
does some colaberations with Eddie Vedder from
Pearl Jam,and many more various artists and
the Buzz around seattle was alot of GUESTS were
going to show up at the gig,so it sold out quickly.
no Vedder or guests,it took two men to help Nusrat
to the stage(350-400 lbs)A pakastani ritual to throw
money on/at the beloved singer was alittle odd to me
but it was more of a ceremony than a performance.
peter gabriel did the soundtrack to "the last temptations of christ" titled Passion thats great
but they released a recording called" Passion Sources"
that features Nusrat and party!
Youssou n'dour from Senagal on real world is worth
listening to along with Baba Maal.
its almost like pick a country and find it on real world

I saw Youssoun N'Dour open for Peter Gabriel once -- amazing live. Good call on that.
And yes, of course I love all the Peter Gabriel stuff -- I think "Passion Sources" was my first venture into world music (to that extent).

My favourites are:
Abdelli - New Moon - excellent and varied north african traditional instruments and vocals; very powerful
Afrocelt SS - esp vol 1
NFAK and Michael Brook - as per previous posts - the bass in a few tracks is phenomenal!
Sheila Chandra - Weaving my ancestors voices - unbelievable female vocals
