Maybe this could be widened to include ECM New Series. The music produced by one time bass player Manfred Eicher on the ECM label, which if you did'nt know stands for Editions of Contemporary Music, is very hard to categorise and I think that makes this Munich based company so interesting. I have yet to buy a bad recording from this label and I currently have something like 200 CDs and 250Lps. ECM titles often come up on the second hand market and it would appear that buyers of this label take great care of them as they are nearly always Mint condition

My absolute favorite ECM album is also one of may absolute favorite jazz albums period: "Special Edition" by Jack DeJohnette.
However, it's quite a departure from "typical" ECM fare (Metheny, Jarrett, etc.).
