The musical version. Inherited about 40 albums and this was in there. Near mint. The booklet is flawless too. Quite a collaborative effort. Produced in 1978. Narrated by Richard Burton. The musicians and singers are mainly British with a couple mainlanders. David Essex (Rock On) & (Godspell) shares in the vocals. Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) plays a mean axe and co-writer. Herbie Flowers on bass (Harry Nilsson "Jump into the Fire") lets you know the Martians are here. Julie Covington (Rocky Horror & Godspell) handles the female angle very nicely. Jo Partridge on guitar (Kiki Dee, Steely Dan, Elton Jon and Steve Hartly's Cockney Rebels) does a convincing heat ray. Chis Thompson (Manfred Mann) helps out with the singing and speaking parts. Philip Lynott (Thin Lizzie front man) lends his charismatic Irish accent to the blend. And last but not least Jeff Wayne (composer, producer, writer, keyboards) who co-wrote, produced and arranged this brilliant album.
My 10 year old was home sick today and noticed this one. Begged me to put it on. What a delight. Havent spun an album for awhile. Forgot how beautiful vinyl sounds. This album is Pink Floyd'ish in a way and also reminiscent of the old radio programs of the early days. The stereo seperation, soundstage and dynamics is so sweet. Over all just a great afternoon of listening with my son. Doesn't get any better.

You are right.
I have listened to it for years.
If anyone has a chance, give this a listen.

Oh yeah, a classic. Congrats on getting the vinyl. I've got the ceedee version. Excellent stuff.

I believe there's an SACD version now as well. It has been recently remastered though.

One of my favourite albums of all time. Yeah, if you're into SACD, definitely get the SACD. It sounds great in an Alan Parsons kind of way, despite his complete lack of involvement.

One of my favorites of all time... I found a nearly mint copy on eBay a couple years ago, and man did it take me back. I always try to play it just before Halloween, it really sets the mood.

Jo Partridge on guitar (Kiki Dee, Steely Dan, Elton Jon and Steve Hartly's Cockney Rebels) does a convincing heat ray.

Horsell Common and the Heat Ray is one of my favorite bits on the album - I love the segue at the beginning from the sounds of distant trains to the sinister beat of the track. And the Heat Ray guitar riff remains one of my all-time favorites.
