View Full Version : What would you rather do?
Charles 02-02-2007, 08:11 PM Would you rather hear your music at a "concert", or stay home and listen to it on your "record player"?
Myself, I fall into the "latter" category.
FIY, the only concert I've ever enjoyed was one where my wife & myself sat on the balcony of our hotel in Eureka Springs, AR listening to the locals play bluegrass.

avguytx 02-02-2007, 08:16 PM I like both but if I had to take a pick, it would be live. Lots of great memories of "being there"...the sound, the crowd, the intensity, etc. I like listening at home, though, because I can pause! lol
Eureka Springs is a cool place. I grew up in Arkansas on the north east side of the state. I can usually only tolerate a couple of days there, though. Too crowded at times and not enough to do. There are only so many restaurants and small clubs I can do! Plus, I hate shopping. But still a beautiful area of the state.
kichijai 02-02-2007, 08:34 PM I'll go to the concert everytime as long as there is plenty of brew and the can is nearby.
IXLR8 02-02-2007, 09:10 PM I'll go to a concert with my wife any time. We have been to a few through the years. We went last Friday to see Bruce Hornsby at The Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth. We had a table waiting, had a great meal then walked to the performance. Had a wonderful time. Got to see what I knew from his music that Bruce Hornsby is very talented and a nice person.
Like all of you I have vintage system or two and a always growing supply of music. Home is hard to beat but a night on the town with the lovely gal I married is still great fun. So my answer is both. Great question, got me thinking, thanks.
Dusty Chalk 02-02-2007, 10:34 PM I've been enjoying my home system more and more lately, and going out less and less.
Drybasement 02-03-2007, 12:03 AM Throughout the 70's, 80's, 90's and even the 00's, I've been to more arena concerts than I dare count. Some where very exciting. But I'm quite tired of that scene. Man, am I ever tired of that.
I love live music but I'd rather see an artist in a small, intimate venue now. A small nightclub, that sort of thing. But since that ain't happening around my part of town, I'm relegated to listening to vinyl and ceedees, of which I have an extensive catalog.
Did I answer you question obtusely enough?
Cheers
ampegdan 02-03-2007, 12:16 AM If I can help it (and I can) I'll never go to another huge outdoor or hockey arena concert again. Theatres like the Tower Theatre in Philly are my favorites. Also 1000 seaters like the Voodoo Lounge in KC. Barring that, I'll take the record machine every time. My wife hates concerts in general so it's no fun if I know she's miserable. I'm a musician myself, so if I'm there I want to be able to see what's going on and hear all the parts. If I have to look at a video screen I may as well be watching on TV, which leaves you at the mercy of editors and cameramen.
hellhound94 02-07-2007, 02:25 PM I think alot of it depends on the venue. I like concerts in the small "club" type places where you can get "up close and personal," have a couple of beers, have a close-at-hand bathroom etc. Getting in and out of these places is usually pretty easy. To me, there's nothing like the sound of live music.
But, that being said, there's also something to be said about kicking back in your own listening room and listening to the system that rocks your world.
OvenMaster 02-07-2007, 09:26 PM I'll take the music at home, please. Not only do I have total control over the environment, but I can stop, pause, and/or replay the music over if I want to, as LOUD as I want to. Plus the clincher: it's cheaper than concert tickets.

I'm with you on this one. There are rare exceptions, but the key word there is "rare".

I totally agree!
The big shows have turned me off for years. Saw more than a few arena/stadium shows back in the day before big screens and watching someone 500 feet away the size on an ant and the dubious quality sound blowing in the wind really wasn't all that memorable in a positive fashion.
But catching an act up close and personal in a bar, tent, small theater, etc, with cold brew and close facilities has produced many fond memories. Better sound and proximity to the artist really makes a huge difference!!
Scorpion8 02-07-2007, 09:40 PM Live music of any sort is well worth it, anytime, anyplace.
dmax99 02-07-2007, 10:04 PM I've had some really great experiences in the past few years at free music fests.Name acts up close on small intimate stages.Walk up and sit down, and enjoy....
HIFIVINYL15 02-07-2007, 10:17 PM I've only been to a few concerts. The three Roger Waters (Nissan Pavilion), Blind Gaurdian (Jaxx Nightclub), and another local band at my school awhile ago. I definitely enjoyed all of them, especially the first two. Roger Waters was amazing. The third was more of a christian rock band, and that was when I was like 12, so I can't really say how good that one was. I would definitely go to more concerts, but I do enjoy home listening. Being in a band myself, I want people to keep attending concerts, because thats probably the only way our music will be heard. So being home is nice, but being there supporting and watching the band in person is very important. I look forward to attending many more concerts.
