Playing Stranglehold the original long version by the Nuge on my main setup creates some strange/cool mind tricks. It has also occurred on a past setup running a quad 747.
When the song comes to the quiet break section and the Nuge begins the lead section it seems he or the amp is just behind me or for a better description almost as if inside my mind. Once in awhile the amp seems to be far right just beside my right shoulder. Then there is the left/right panning of the cymbal to give it a 360 degree effect which when I hear it does go around the room. I know a lot has to do with the way this song was mixed and produced but has anyone else experienced this. A kinda 3-D for your mind/ears. Its really strange I know but it happens every time I play it on CD. No other recordings I have create this illusion like this. It does not happen on my bedroom setup, yet anyway. Maybe I have the main system dialed in just right not sure.
And NO! I don’t do drugs…LOL

Dont currently have the album, but remember the way the cymbals and lead guitar would fade from one side to the other. Awesome song. Seen him 76 or 77. Incredible show. Opened with this song. Same thing live, in STEREO.

Only when I listened to it after buying the album new when it was released, with headphones on in my dark bedroom, under the influence of Cannabis Sativa. :D

That's one of the few Ted Nugent songs I like. I'll give it a spin and see if I can detect the illusion your talking about. I have an unconventional MC setup so maybe I won't hear it, and its not the best recording.
Other songs that I can think of off hand that give the illusion of the drums going in circles in my room are:
Led Zep- Moby Dick, Song Remains the Same
Dire Straits- Money for Nothin', Brothers in Arms
Blue Man Group- Mandelgroove & Klein Mandelbrot, Audio

Stranglehold was my song in high school. I knew it inside and out. Listened to Stranglehold last week and was amazed at all the new effects I had never noticed as a kid. Great stereo effects, did not notice anything 3-D.

Well I tried it once again on my bedroom setup last night and no 3-D effects were heard. Not sure what the secret to it is. But I know it happens everytime while being played on my SPEC rig. I think the speakers being farther apart along with other things like using a SR-303 reverb unit plus RG-1 & RG-2 but they are tied to a tape loop and have little or no effect on the sound. Mainly used for bouncy light action. I still think its the speaker placement. My main rig has a footprint of 12' feet wide. You would think with speakers that far apart you might lose the image or lack of bass but not true here. Sitting in the sweet spot you get the illusion the vocalists is singing thru the center surround speaker when you hear the singer and look at the speaker. But I am only running stereo. When my buddy drops by I'll have him sit in the sweet spot and see if he can detect what I am hearing. I tell you its a weird and cool illusion. Anybody local want to give it a whirl let me know!
