View Full Version : Are there any Scorpions fans out there?
Debassige 02-05-2007, 04:46 PM I'm at work listening to, Fly to the Rainbow by the Scorpions, for those who think the Scorpions are basically " Rock you like a Hurricane, or Winds of Change" listen to some of the older stuff, Lonesome Crow, Fly to the Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer, Taken by Force, Tokyo Tapes. Ulrich Roth is what makes these first few albums (except Lonesome Crow) exceptional. Micheal Schenker is damn good in his own right, but Uli rocks :music: for lack of a better word. Klaus Meine has one of the best metal voices around IMO, right up there with Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio. for those of you who've written them off as a 80's metal band, take a listen t to the older stuff, you will not be dissapointed. Lonesome Crow, Fly to the Rainbow, and In Trance are my favourite:D
junkaudio 02-05-2007, 04:49 PM my first live concert was in my town scorpions in trance tour (age 16)
long ago but they did blew my head!
rickr15 02-05-2007, 05:00 PM I like their old stuff but for me the late 70's early 80's was their best period of music. They played here with Tesla a while back and still sound pretty damn good live.
spkrman57 02-05-2007, 05:20 PM My favorite album:
Animal Magnetism
Ron
MitsuMan 02-05-2007, 05:44 PM Got turned on to the Scorps in college via The Tokyo Tapes live album. Then Animal Magnetism (I have a German pressing on CD that sounds awesome!) and kinda quit listening after Love At First Sting. :thmbsp:
Debassige 02-05-2007, 05:58 PM Love at first Sting is what got me into them at first and then i think it's what killed it for me as well, don't get me wrong it's a great album, but everytime i turned on the TV back in the day all i saw was Rock you like a Hurricane, and of course it's a become a bit of an anthem, so it's been overplayed a little. World Wide Live introduced me to some of the older stuff, and then a found a copy of Fly to the Rainbow at the SA, and belive it our not it was that album that got me into this hobby. When i bought it i didn't even own a turntable, i went out a picked up a Kenwood KA-7150 and a cheap pioneer TT, and that was it, i was hooked (on the Scorpions and audio):D I listen to the album at least once a week. I consider Uli Roth to be one of the greatest guitar players of all time, I don't know how good he is technically, but something about the way he plays.......it just does something for me:drool: .

Check out more of their older stuff with Rudolph Schenker on guitar.
Wireworm5 02-05-2007, 06:13 PM When renting cds was legal I rented a few Scorpian cd's and made a compilation disc of all the good songs. Then by chance my dad gave me a cd he found on the road which was Scorpians Acoustica. One of my favorite albums now with all their good songs in acoustic.
ampegdan 02-05-2007, 10:15 PM I can't vait for de night vit chew. I imachin de tings ve do.
I chust vant to be loffed bah you...
Dusty Chalk 02-06-2007, 05:57 PM I saw them live right around the Animal Magnetism album. Alas, that is not my favourite album, Lovedrive (or is it Love Drive?) still holds that spot -- not a duff track on it.
...in between Def Leppard (On Through The Night just came out, and I think I was older than half the bad at that point) and Ted Nugent.
NeedForSpeed 02-08-2007, 11:32 PM Love the Scorps, been waiting for some new stuff for awhile.:thmbsp:
Jack Lord 02-09-2007, 12:58 PM One of my guilty pleasures and worthy of a greatest hits.
alwayslooking 02-09-2007, 01:37 PM I will have to give the older stuff a listen. I found a greatest hits at SA the other day and have 1 other
madpioneer 02-09-2007, 03:06 PM Seen them live more than once. I think my favorite album is Animal Magnetism but like many of the others too. Got World Wide Live Laserdisc and also them in Japan at the Super Rock Festival in the 80's with Rudolph.:thmbsp:
Need to get the older ones on CD soon.
Dale A B 02-11-2007, 10:11 PM Another fan here of the 1974 -1978 Scorpions output, my fav being either FTTR or Taken By Force. If you've ever seen the original German cover of TBF, you'll see it in a different light - a very appropriate and sad play on words. I think the first Scorps LP I bought was the Tokyo Tapes, and then followed them well into the 80's. Even enjoy the fairly recent "Unbreakable".
Now that I'm all riled up, I'm going to have to crack open some "Drifting Sun"!
If you've ever read Martin Popoff's "The Collectors Guide to Heavy Metal, here is how he rated the 1st 10 Scorpion's albums, on a scale from 0 to 10:
Lonesome Crow - 0
FTTR - 3
In Trance - 5
Virgin Killer - 8
TBF - 9
Tokyo Tapes - 7
Lovedrive - 8
Animal Mag - 10
Blackout - 10
LAFS - 7
..........and nothing higher than a 6 since then......oh well!
OldSkool 02-23-2007, 05:16 PM They played here with Tesla a while back and still sound pretty damn good live.I saw them with Tesla also a few years ago and they were awesome. Klaus hit every note and they flat our rocked.
I got chills hearing 'Still Loving You' live. Same with 'Winds of Change'
"A-low Houston, ve are das Scorp-yons" :D
bully 02-23-2007, 05:47 PM Somehow I misssed out on the Scorpions. Didn't know Tesla til a week ago in chat here so I bought the cd recommended that evening.
Drybasement 02-23-2007, 06:30 PM Not really a fan but I do like their music. My first encounter with them was hearing "Zoo" on the radio back in 1980.
I have Blackout and Love At First Sting.
Saw them in concert once. It was in Jacksonville, FL back in 1984 while they were touring for the Love At First Sting album. Great show. We were down on the main floor not twenty feet from the band. Oddly enough, there wasn't any pushing and shoving that you would normally expect from general admission floor tickets. And it wasn't overly crowded either. One of the better arena type concerts I've ever been too.
junkaudio 02-23-2007, 06:44 PM look at the cover :http://www.sleazeroxx.com/censored/virgin.shtml
looks like rock n roll back then i don`t like the newer stuff
Kptn Howdie 02-24-2007, 03:50 PM Love the Scorps, been waiting for some new stuff for awhile.:thmbsp:
love the scorps too, saw them at the "monsters of rock" back in the late 80`s. they kicked ass...........
i friend of mine picked up thier new cd a couple of years back, i think it was "unbreakable", but whatever it was it SUCKED ASS:thumbsdn:
i guess whatever goes up must come down..............:sigh:

Dude, Not a day goes by that i dont play some scorps. I saw em at monsters of rock in germany in 85 and have been smitten ever since. I bought my first Scorpions record in the Frankfurt train station.
birddog 02-24-2007, 07:55 PM "Still Loving You" is my favorite Scorp's tune, and fav album is a toss up between "Blackout" and "Animal Magnetism"...
Dusty Chalk 02-28-2007, 09:42 PM look at the cover :http://www.sleazeroxx.com/censored/virgin.shtml
looks like rock n roll back then i don`t like the newer stuffThanks for the link to that site. The Love Drive cover reminds me: back in the 80's, there used to be a placed called "The Record Co-Op" in the Student Union at UMCP, and in it, someone had stuck a sticker on the record that said:Whoever likes this album cover hates women...and then someone else had crossed out "women" and written underneath, "bubble-gum" (as in, "whoever likes this album cover hates bubble gum"). :lmao:
Yamaha1 03-05-2007, 04:03 AM Been their fans since LP days, have attended many Klaus Meineke concerts as well.
Ivorytooth 04-03-2007, 06:44 PM In Trance is one of my favorites.
Love the songs Evening Wind and the instrumental Night Lights.
Any Scorps fan should have In Trance in their collection!!
speakerlust 04-03-2007, 06:48 PM SCORPIONS ROCK!!!:guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:
Winds of change was a change for them.
But send me an angel was almost moving as for metal bands.
Yeah, alot of the older stuff people have just not heard.
I remember when I think it was Sammy Hagar and Ronny Montrose teamed up
MitsuMan 04-03-2007, 07:14 PM SCORPIONS ROCK!!!:guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

:headscrat Yeah, they were teamed up..........in a band called Montrose. Neither of them played in the Scorpions.
speakerlust 04-03-2007, 07:19 PM Yeah that's right.................
I never thought that either one played with the scorps though
But hagar rules too:guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:
subdermis2000 04-06-2007, 12:11 AM Blackout was the breakout album for me. My first real arena show (I was denied several times by Aerosmith from 79-81 (storms, drunks (theirs) etc.) b/c of various factors out of my control before then) was a triple bill -Girlschool - Scorpions - Iron Maiden. For Ironmaiden it was the Number of the Best Tour, for the Scorpions it was the Blackout tour. Quite the initiation. I've since seen the Scorpions on four other dates here in Winnipeg.
By the way, has anyone here got the original release of Virgin Killer? This cover (NSFW by the way http://www.the-scorpions.com/english/discography/records/virgin_killer.asp)
liquidluvr 04-07-2007, 09:46 AM Definately Animal Magnetism!!!! Remastered version sounds excellent...So many memories there. I cant wait for Dio with Sabbath (Heaven and Hell) in Cincinnatti this May 8th......:thmbsp: relivin' the past again!
srbliss 12-22-2007, 04:30 AM I just listened to the LP 'fly to the rainbow' twice in a row. I absolutely love this album, great quality. Actually all of their old stuff is really, really good. Vastly better than most of the crap of that era. Old UFO also turns my crank.
Steve
Gibsonian 12-22-2007, 09:04 AM Scorps are classic stuff. Probably my favorite hard rock band. Saw them in St. Louis probably 10 +/-2 years ago and they amazed me with how "on" they sounded, even on the old stuff. I like Speedy's Comin.
