Why am I asked to sign in when doing a search when I'm already signed in?
The prompt wants to install software on my computer.
What gives?

yes

the website is loginnow.net
Your rig has probably been compromised by a rogue browser "toolbar" extension.

Domain Name: LOGINNOW.NET
Registry Domain ID: 2173766613_DOMAIN_NET-VRSN
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.internet.bs
Registrar URL: http://www.internetbs.net
Registrant Street: Ocean Centre, Montagu Foreshore, East Bay Street
Registrant City: Nassau
Registrant State/Province: New Providence
Registrant Postal Code:
Registrant Country: BS

"Tool" indeed. And the irony of the Bahamas country code of "BS" is too rich. :rflmao:

You can try and remove it from either your OS control panel or your browser's extension library. If it's really pesky give Malwarebytes a run.

I was going to mention that also. I visited that site in a protected browser instance and noticed it wanted me to download and install their toolbar. (Maybe we should call them "Foolbars"? :D ) My main concern is what data that toolbar is collecting. Like many, they claim to provide a benefit to the user, while hiding their true intentions in the fine print.

Hmmmmm I went to the site and nothing happend... (But I have scripts disabled which may be why)

Going directly to the site, it's optional to install the toolbar. But they try to make it attractive to get people to get the install link, by offering convenience (with a hidden payload of course). Most of the Internet users out there never read the fine print.
