The Strombergs can run without the 12AX7s. I don't think I have the schematics for the others - many of the Fisher and H-K amps ran the heaters in the phono preamp from the DC current through the output tubes - they DEFINITELY wouldn't run without 'em. Though you could stick ANY 12V tube in there...
