  • Haha Paul, come on over and check out mine! Any digital source, whether it be a CD player, Dvd player, computer, etc. has a built in Digital Analog Converter. Some are better than others. The onboard DAC in a cudioomputer is usually pretty lousy. Instead of allowing the onboard DAC to do the conversion from the digital domain to the analog, you can send the raw digital signal to an outboard device, DAC, that does a much better job of conversion. Digital files such as MP3s tend to be on the harsh side, so a DAC that implements a tube can do a nice job of mellowing out, fattening the sound. My Grant Fidelity TubeDAC 11 does a nice job of that. There's one for sale right now on CL BTW...
