Heading home from Ganado Arizona for the weekend and stopped in Casa Granda ( Salvation Army) One of my “ Hit or Miss” thrifts. So look, I own PLENTY of Yamaha Receivers ( CR 620/1020/2020/3020/840.
M/60 C/60 power & Pre.
But not one set of Yamaha Speakers so when I saw this set sitting while others just walked on by I took a look and decided to buy them. The price was well, Pretty fair! The cabs on the 30t are in 10/10 condition. The NS 244 8/10.
From the short listening session I’m impressed ! All of the 30t drivers With tweeters work 100% while the NS-244 has one non/working tweet. How did I do for my very first set (s) of Yamaha Speakers? I guess finding a replacement tweeter for the NS-244 will be a tough.

That's a great deal if you like the way they sound, I'd say you did great. I haven't heard either of those but they do look pretty.

The last set of speakers I bought from the thrift had a non working tweeter as well but when I opened it up I found one of the wires had fallen off. Maybe you'll get lucky and that's all it is as well.

No such luck! Cleaned the L/Pad with deoxit and when opened all wires intact. The NS 30t has potential for sure and the one functional NS-244 wasn’t bad at all.
Maybe the CR 840 Receiver will make a good pairing with the 30t’s.

Congrats on your score.
I've always been curious to hear the NS-30T.
I own a pair of NS-244, among several other Yamaha speakers.
They were one of Yamaha's lower end offerings of the late 70s, with stamped baskets but great build quality. The NS-344 have a midrange in addition to the same woofer and tweeter.
I've seen NS-244 tweeters on ebay recently.
You can clean up the white woofers with bleach or diluted bleach.

My impressions with the NS-244 is that the woofer is crossed over way too high and is shouty in the midrange, I actually gutted the tweeters (sorry, you could've used those) and retrofitted a huge tweeter (that can be crossed over much lower) behind the stock tweeter grill, retaining that cool stock look.
On bass heavy recordings, the 244s have profoundly deep bass. However, on balanced recordings they're a bit polite, so I'm experimenting with porting right now.
I hope you find a replacement tweeter and get to enjoy them!
Would love to hear which ones between the two pairs you think sound better.
Best regards.

Well I found a replacement tweeter !! It will be a few weeks before I can replace & listen. ( Away working). I’ll report back later.

The verdict is they rock !!! Paired up with my Yamaha 610II Amplifier ( Recapped due too a faulty right channel) I had my tech do a overhaul on it. A great combo indeed musically.

Hi Kydog,

I am looking at a pair of NS-30T for $50 on Craigslist. What is your opinion on the sound? Wondering if this is worthwhile for the long drive!

(Fellow CR-2020 and NS-1000M owner)

I enjoy them a lot !! Play well with Yamaha amplifiers. I’ve matched them up with my CR 1020 and 2020 with good results. $50 is a good deal IMHO

Some nice gems in the Yamaha speaker range. The one constant is great build quality and cool looks. In most cases the sound is really musical as well. Enjoy. That NS30T price looks really good. Go for it
