Yamaha Deck

Hy all! I found a unit, YAMAHA KX-W900 at 160 euros and I want to ask for a specialist opinion if this deck is ok for this money or is expensive. Secondly, if this deck is considered acceptably from an audiophile pov and finally which are best yamaha decks. Thank you very much.

Hmm, that's probably a bit on the pricey side, but it obviously depends on its condition and how much you want a dual record auto reverse deck with lots of features. Also, the price depends somewhat on the availability of stuff in your country.

I've noticed on forums like this that most "cassette head" audiophiles tend not to put auto-reverse or twin decks at the top of their list. :thmbsp:

However, these decks have handy features, with probably the chief one being that it has dual record with a relay function, which allows you to record for hours at a time.

I had a well-worn one of these a few years ago, that I bought from a pawn shop, and found it a bit slow a clunky. I ended up using the timer-record function to record long radio shows until it died.

As far as their best decks go, you can have a look through this list.

Many of the decks on this site have the original recommended retail price.
It looks like the KX-690 is/was a nice deck, with 3 heads and 3 motors.

thank you very much. indeed,a double deck is not for audiophile purpose. for this I have a nak bx-300 and I am wondering if Aiwa excelia 009 will be my next acquisition for this pov. thank you again

...which are best yamaha decks

Interesting question, never thought about a "best" Yamaha cassette deck, but your question made me want to do some research, here is what I found*:

K-1xw*
Perhaps the silver with wood-sided K-1xw was the ultimate. Not sure what this model was outside of Japan, but it looks like a mate to the mighty CDX-2000 to me.

K-2000*
Any Yamaha with the number of 2000 is bound to be up there, right? This one may have been the most expensive, followed by the K-1xw.

K-8*
O-k, this one may not be an upper echelon unit, but I think it is the best looking.

K-1020 and KX-1200 are missing from the Yamaha guide.

The Aiwa trumps the Nakamichi in the recording as it had all the electrical recording calibration parameters BLE whereas Nakamichi only had bias B.

Not many audiophiles would recommend the Yamaha KX-W9000 as it had autoreverse with the rotating head which is very bad for the azimuth. Only a few type of dual wells are pretty decent such as a few Denon.

The best autoreverse decks used super hardened azimuth adjustment screws and ceramic headstoppers- once correctly aligned, they were perfect.

Akai had some of the best mechanisms, along with the top Aiwas.

Yes, there are some but they might benefit from the NAAC or MAAC from Nakamichi and Marantz every now and then for maintenance.

I am refreshing the subject ... I'm looking for a Yamaha deck to my Yamaha A-S3000 set. Any suggestion more than welcome ?

two important conditions ... 1) version for Europe and 2) in silver.
