Saved Another One .

Sharpstik

Stuck in the 70's
So now I’m in the Marantz forum .

My daughter and son in law closed on a farm last week and I went up there to help . The seller of the farm was a nice elderly man and his wife who were moving to North Carolina to escape the harsh winters here . Anyway he left a lot of his possessions and I wandered down into the basement for a look . Initially I walked by it the first time since it was down there at the bottom . Later I went down again and it was then I noticed it . Rob said “ I knew you’d find that “. Lol it may have wound up in the dumpster . Not now . My first Marantz . I love freebies .
This thing probably hasn’t been turned on for a long time. Many years . It was originally in a box ( not the original) but Rob had removed it . I haven’t even tried it yet .
A 2240.

Overcoming fear, I plugged it in and pushed the button .
Needs a few lamps . Big deal .
Protection circuit kicked in . AM and FM push the signal meters and it’s clear in both channels . Balance works . That’s enough sweating for now.

I’d love to get this one restored and be able to crank it with no surprises .

Did you find the Pioneer in the basement as well? (2nd picture, back right.)
Lol. No . That one is one of my restoreds . Does dining room duty for now . A 636 .
I wonder where the turntable and speakers wound up . If there was one . I know he had speakers. There were long wires hooked up and an antenna wire as well . I know they weren’t tossed by any of us .

After listening tor about 15 minutes I’ve decided this thing needs to go under the knife . It isn’t as clear as I’m used to . A fellow AK’er will overhaul it for me .
