To be clear, I was talking about the second picture. That is definitely a 512 BB but not a BB/LM.

512BB. The position of the air intake for the mid mount engine varied over the lifetime of the model.

512BB/LM intended for racing.

A couple of the cars you mentioned brought to mind an anecdote I heard years ago. A fellow who had recently come to the company told the tale of former co-worker 'Tom' who was complaining that he had to take his new TR7 in because one of the windows would not stay all the way up. 'Dick', who had an MGB commented that "real sports car owners drive with the windows down". To which 'Harry', who had a TD, retorted "real sports car owners don't have windows".
