What counterweight would work with a Kenwood KD 750?

KD750 counterweight stub diameter, 13.7mm KD650 .... 13.5mm, yup, it will not quite fit on. Jelco ... 12mm If you manage to get a whole KD650 arm, you can drop the whole thing in, keeping the height adjustment from the KD750. The arm from the 650 is a slightly better arm (better wiring...

    Silly looking damping fluid trough

Unlike the Townsend, the Kenwood has a lid, but yes, eventually the silicone will become filled with dust. That would be many years down the track.

    Silly looking damping fluid trough

I had, well have, a Townsend Rock. The turntable itself, with it's wobbly upside down bearing and silly little clock motor had a few issues, but the front end damping trough was easy to use and provided superb results. I ripped the trough off the turntable and glued it onto my favourite TT, a...

What should my new cartridge be?

I brought a brand new xv15 757s a very long time ago. Damn it was good. Replaced it with an at oc9 which was a bit better. later replaced the busted 757s stylus with a eliptical and the magic was gone. Still. In an rb300 or similar mass arm the pickering can sing with the right diamond.

    AC vs. DC turntable motors

there is no such thing as a true DC motor. what you think of as a DC motor is a 'mechanically commutated' AC motor. It's not a very good solution, with brushes and opposite pole pairs and the associated compromises. It has the virtue of being cheap and well developed.

    AC vs. DC turntable motors

the papst aussenlaufer 3 phase motor, if driven optimally does not exhibit cogging, nor speed drift. If you wish to upgrade again, reinstall the old AC motor and drive it with an adjustable 3 phase generator. If it's a 2 phase motor, well, forget what i said.

    Norfolk Island, Greetings from

Star Wars, i've just watched. Hmmmm. Most of my cool gear is back in NZ waiting to be crated up and shipped out. I've been watching & listening on my Oppo 105 direct into a huge NAD amp then re-made KEF Carlton-3 speakers. I've a media server hooked up too, via both the HDMI input (mythtv)...
