    Sennheiser headphones wire modification

Not sure if this belongs best in DIY or General, but here goes... I have two very nice Sennheisers sets that I like (HD-555 and HD-580). However, the one thing I do not like about them (actually, there are two - see below) is the flimsy, long and thin straight wire both these headphones come...

Concept ELC II from Pacific Stereo

The ELC and ELC II were manufactured by TAIC, a division of Toshiba, which was also the maker of the legendary Concept 2QD turntable. The ELC II retailed for just under $500 in 1980. No, only one other bidder - I sniped it. The auction is still accessible and the number is 280359478621 if...

Concept ELC II from Pacific Stereo

I picked up a Concept ELC II on eBay for next to nothing. It had all new belts installed, and is, simply put, in remarkable cosmetic and functional condition: Just a little wear on the "Play" button, which is manufactured in "chrome plastc". I have been looking for a nice specimen of this...

    Rectilinear Woofer Varieties: Information Sought

So that revealed a sixth variety, SJ! The OP has been edited accordingly. If you ever have them out, it would be interesting to find out if they are Jensen (EIA 220) or CTS (EIA 137). Thanks!:thmbsp:

    Rectilinear Woofer Varieties: Information Sought

Those of you that follow the brand may be aware that the Rectilinear III (Lowboy and “Highboy”) were assembled with a variety of woofer varieties. I believe these varieties include: Manufacturer: CTS and Jensen (EIA codes 137 and 220, resp.) Basket Color: Black, Blue or Bronze Magnet...

Concept User's Group on AK: Invitation to Join

Concept group reopened. The Concept group has been inaccessible for a while but has now been reopened. The group, which enjoys one of the largest memberships of any AK's social group, has now reopened - join (if you haven't already done so) and post away!

    Rectilinear woofer replacement?

Putting in a non-original driver will hurt the resale value and quite possibly sonics - what's wrong with the CTS's? Why not keep the speaker original and repair the old woofer? Or find a CTS replacement on eBay? Or put in the earlier Jensen woofer? I would not put in the incorrect...

Quadraflex Reference 650FET-R Owner's Manual Thanks to an anonymous contribution the following document has been added to the database: Quadraflex Reference 650FET-R Owner's Manual This would be the first non-Concept entry into the database of Pacific Stereo's private brands: We will...

Rectilinear III Highboys: any recapping success stories?

Agreed with Joe - 100wpc and above makes a big difference on the Highboys, IMO: Note that there are differences in opinion here - member Snade runs them with something like 30 tube watts, and is very happy. :music: I run them with 165 wpc, and noticed a huge improvement when I went from 100...

    concept 11.0

Anything under $3 per wpc is a great deal for these, in the context of things. However, the market for vintage gear seems to be a bit down, and an 11.0 may not command anywhere near that amount at the moment.

    Concept receivers - documentation posted.

Concept made three speaker models - the CE-2, CE-1, and CE-M (from little to big), all featuring a Heil AMT tweeter, and all quite rare. For a 16.5, I would recommend the CE-M, if you can find one, or if not that, the CE-1, for a complete Pacific Stereo setup. My CE-2: They also had...

Well Known and Presumed Active Member Listed as "Guest" - What Does That Mean?

I was doing some AK searching on Google and came across this thread. The post originator is listed merely as "Guest", with no user details, post count, or any other information - I've never seen this before: As there is no explicit label - as is customary here - that he has been...

Rectilinear III and DQ-10 specialists - what mid?

Great find on that BAS article, Highping! Both the AD5060 and AD5061 are ferrite drivers. The earlier Highboys had AlNiCo drivers, however - so there must have been at least three flavors of Highboy drivers. Here are some snapshots of my AlNiCos: Here's the AD5061 (mine), for...

    Rectilinear XII...BOOOOM

The reference to the XII as being a bit down the line is made merely on the basis of its price point, and is not a reflection of its sonic qualities: This Rectilinear ad from 1971 lists the line-up at that time as (all prices per speaker), giving us a glimpse of the "pecking order" (of sorts)...

Rectilinear Fans: A Little Something for You.

New Documentation from the New York Times I have been looking for ways to get into the New York Times historical archives (one reason being that the powers at Wikipedia found my Rectilinear Research entry a bit too reliant on the company's own material, as opposed to "third party" material)...

Concept 7.5D Owner's Manual and Schematic This guy locally to me had an ad on CL about a Concept 2QD for sale in "as new" condition ($150). I was too late on the trigger to get it, but I found out he also had a Concept 7.5D - both purchased new. To make a longish story short, he still had the...

Concept receiver (etc.) - comments from Richard Schram

I believe JohnFalc is thinking of the three Concept speaker models, Pete - CE-2, CE-2, and CE-M (in order from smaller to larger), all of which featured ESS AMT Heil tweeters. Post edit/correction: I remember now that the CE speakers were made by ESS, so please disregard certain aspects...

what are Rectilinear XIIs valued at resale

Local pickup, I assume. Depending upon condition and driver/x-over functionality (originality), but for a good condition, fully functioning (but used!) pair I would say in the $50-$100 range, perhaps toward the lower end of that range. They don't sell often, so valuation is a little dicey...
