    Re-Edger

Re-edger (Gene) Hi, I'm trying to find the direct e-mail for re-edger, former Audiokarma member with the name Gene G***** who lives in California. I lost track of his e-mail although I still have his address. I used to order a bunch of surrounds from him and was always satisfied with his...

Any vintage speaker sightings in classic movies?

I'm pretty sure I spotted a pair of Advent 5002s in that camera shop scene. There may have been other Advents but my eye went right to the 5002s since I own a pair and know them well. I even remarked to my wife about it while we were watching the scene in the theater.

    Definitive Beethoven Symphonies

There are so many Beethoven Symphony cycles to choose from so part of the fun is to listen (and collect) as many as possible to make your own choices. I once owned the Karajan/BPO 1977 set and liked that for a while. Later picked up the Szell/Cleveland set among many others including the Bohm...

That's the crown jewel of fusion recordings except for maybe Birds of Fire.

Herbie Hancock - Mwandishi. The tune Ostinato is great but You'll Know When You Get There is one miraculous piece of group improvisation.

    John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix

Yeah, and I traded in my lp of Rainbow Bridge to a record exchange on a day that I needed gas money to get home from college. Wish I still had it.

    Jazz Fusion Playlist

Saw the same trio (Mac, Joey, Chambers) in the 90's at a local high school auditorium. The show was sponsored by the Piedmont Guitar Society (NC). My friend and I had never heard of Chambers until that night and about five seconds into the first song we looked at each other with our mouths...

    Jazz Fusion Playlist

Love that McLaughlin Trio album! I wore out a cassette of it until I finally found the cd in a local record store for a buck. It's probably my favorite post Mahavishnu (original lineup) stuff from him except for maybe "After the Rain." I'm a big fan of Oregon also having seen them many times...

    Jazz Fusion Playlist

Listening to "Dreams So Real" by the Gary Burton Quintet. Pat Metheny's solo on Ictus Syndrome is really a thing of beauty as is Steve Swallow's walking underneath it.

I love the thread, especially the ECM artists and musicians like Ralph Towner and Oregon. Why is it that Ken Burns left all this fantastic improvised music off his jazz documentary? Not bluesy enough?

Traynor Mark YGL-3 / Mark 3 in the House!!

I wouldn't risk running an electric bass through it except at really low volumes. Nice amp! I remember the Traynor brand displayed in music stores along with Kustom, Acoustic, Casino, Ampeg etc. The Traynor bass amps were pretty popular in the day.

    Advent 3002 woofer help needed

Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you weren't aware of the surrounds being a separate issue than the voice coils etc.

    Advent 3002 woofer help needed

Are the woofers toast or just the woofer surrounds? Surrounds can be replaced/repaired inexpensively.

Advent 5012/O speakers, $75 worth it???

Oh, shouldn't this thread be in either speakers or dollars and sense?

Advent 5012/O speakers, $75 worth it???

I have the 5002s which is the vinyl wrapped version of the wood veneered 5012s. Definitely worth it even with bad surrounds. I'm pretty sure woofers are the same as in the new advent but the 5002/5012 use a dome tweeter (which sounds great to me) instead of the fried egg style. I've never...

    The official Music score thread

If you like Jerry Goodman's playing, the band to check him out with is the first lineup of John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. Get these records: Inner Mounting Flame Birds of Fire Between Nothingness and Eternity The Lost Trident Sessions (only on CD) He also did an album called Like...

+1 on The Flock. Now you just need their 2nd LP, titled "Dinosaur Swamps." Jerry Goodman started as a roadie with the band.

I didn't need two more pair of speakers

The 102s are nice speakers that are well worth refoaming. Mine have the rubber surrounds too and are original. Didn't need to refoam when I got them, which was a plus.

    Waaaaayyyy 80's sony receiver!

No problem Freekshow. That receiver has a couple kewl features like the 8ohm/4ohm switch in the back and the magnetic/moving coil phono switch. It reeks 80's "space-age" styling and contrary to the above comments by others the push button controls have never acted up for me. Enjoy it!

    Waaaaayyyy 80's sony receiver!

I have a 760 driving a pair of BA A-60s. Sounds good to me. 85W per channel. Here's the manual for both the 560 and 760: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/STRAV560.PDF

    Boston Acoustics HD7.......

Sounds like a deal, especially with foams intact. They make great near field monitors. I own a pair and prefer them to A40s.

    Your Last Concert (or two)

Junior Brown. Played the hell out of his guit-steel at the Blind Tiger in Greensboro, NC. Also saw a former student perform the Khachaturian violin concerto at the local university school of music.

    Songs with cowbell

Batuka, No One to Depend On (Santana III) Ezy Rider (Hendrix, Cry of Love) Both artists wrote a lot of songs that used cowbell. It really drives the rhythm in a lot of their songs.
