I don’t know PG…I’ve compared a pimped out 3116 with my Volt+D and I have to say that I preferred the 3116 as long as the extra power wasn’t needed.

I ran that combo years ago. It worked fine.

It doesn’t matter how many watts your amp is. What matters is if you play that amp too loud. You could mate a 1,000 watt amp with 25 watt speakers and as long as you aren’t aggressive with the volume, you’ll be fine.

Just about every speaker I have ever had can do the disappearing act. It’s just a matter of some being better than others. The main factor is a good room and setup. After that, good equipment helps take things to the next level.

Wow….that’s surprising. I’ve got both too and in my systems, it’s not even close with the SE84 easily the preferred amp. Did you own them both at the same time? Actually, my favorite little cheap amp is the little 4 tube Miniwatt. That’s a great little amp.

I’m a big fan of single driver speakers. I’ve got multiple examples of Fostex, Mark Audio, Omega’s and others. My favorite is the Omegas. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for high efficiency designs.

Thanks for sharing. I guess my main question or concern is how do you know that the speakers are in spec? There are multiple drivers, crossover components etc. in this speaker and it’s very old. Do you know that they sound as they are supposed to?

That was a great read. All I can say is that I hope it all works out for you. I’ve got a Miniwatt too and while I really think it’s a great amp for the money, I’ve never run it for more than a couple of hours...the little thing gets really hot!

Be careful, my impression is that you like to listen to music a lot louder than most. While the Hornshoppe's are great speakers, I'm not sure they'd do well in your situation.

The little Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus are the best tiny speakers that have been in my listening room. They are fantastic and one of the few speakers that I regret selling. These are truly small speakers; they make a Harbeth P3ESR look huge.
