Fosi Audio ZA3 - Initial Review

Thanks, I think I understand what you did. So even though you fed both signals into the ”right” input, one signal was from the left channel and the other from the right. I guess some of my OCD is coming through!

Fosi Audio ZA3 - Initial Review

Enjoyed the review. Very comprehensive and well thought out. Thanks for posting. One thing I didn’t understand is that in the pic you posted of the dual mono configuration it looks like you are just running one channel twice. In both units, the input is attached to the same channel and the...

    Jolida JD9 orVincent PHO-701

Your room looks awfully bright and reflective. My guess is that you’d get significant improvements by just treating that space.

Kind of an unfair comparison. The Moreplay has gain, it’s going to sound a lot different than the Saga, especially if your system needs that gain. I’ve got multiple preamps…cheap to expensive. Depending on what I’m playing, sometimes a cheap passive one without gain sounds better than an...

Nobsound E6 Preamp Uses Directly Heated Tubes

Anyone ever see a picture of her listening room or know what her actual reference components are? What speakers does she use?

    Amp Advice

It’s a bit redundant to throw the Saga in front of the Allo. You don’t need the Saga if you have the Allo. I have an Allo Volt+D, but really I’d consider spending a bit more…the Yamaha might be a good recommendation or perhaps the little Rega IO amp might be in your budget. I’ve also got a...

    TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

Hi PG, no, a buddy and I did the comparison with no extra preamps in the signal path.

    TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

I don’t know PG…I’ve compared a pimped out 3116 with my Volt+D and I have to say that I preferred the 3116 as long as the extra power wasn’t needed.

I ran that combo years ago. It worked fine.

    Kef 105, Yamaha NS1000, Yamaha NS690 II

It doesn’t matter how many watts your amp is. What matters is if you play that amp too loud. You could mate a 1,000 watt amp with 25 watt speakers and as long as you aren’t aggressive with the volume, you’ll be fine.

    Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekends

Just about every speaker I have ever had can do the disappearing act. It’s just a matter of some being better than others. The main factor is a good room and setup. After that, good equipment helps take things to the next level.

    TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

Wow….that’s surprising. I’ve got both too and in my systems, it’s not even close with the SE84 easily the preferred amp. Did you own them both at the same time? Actually, my favorite little cheap amp is the little 4 tube Miniwatt. That’s a great little amp.

Pairing full range speakers with SET 300B tube amp?

I’m a big fan of single driver speakers. I’ve got multiple examples of Fostex, Mark Audio, Omega’s and others. My favorite is the Omegas. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for high efficiency designs.

    Infinity rs1b....my impressions

Thanks for sharing. I guess my main question or concern is how do you know that the speakers are in spec? There are multiple drivers, crossover components etc. in this speaker and it’s very old. Do you know that they sound as they are supposed to?

Death Of The APPJ 2013 (SHORT STORY)

That was a great read. All I can say is that I hope it all works out for you. I’ve got a Miniwatt too and while I really think it’s a great amp for the money, I’ve never run it for more than a couple of hours...the little thing gets really hot!

Schiit Bifrost (non MB) or Schiit Modi MB??

Hi Macaltec, I've got the Modi 3 and the Multibit BiFrost. No question, the Modi 3 measures better. When I got the Modi 3, I was hoping it sounded better. The plan was to sell the Bifrost and pocket the difference but as much as I wanted the Modi 3 to sound better, to my ears it just didn't...

Will cost-effective DACs / digital kill boutique HiFi

One thing about blind tests. When you blindfold people trying to identify food, they can often be horribly inaccurate. I've seen people mistake cheese for meats and grains for vegetables etc. It's mind boggling. No one would say that these people can't pick a cantaloupe from a tomato nor...

Speakers that are easy to place and meant for corner loading or being placed up against a wall?

Give him a call, tell him what you want. If you like those 3's, you might really like the 8's. A set of 8's with a front port could be interesting.

Speakers that are easy to place and meant for corner loading or being placed up against a wall?

Even if you are going to be listening at a constant 90-95 db; which is VERY loud to some people, the Hornshoppe's may not be the best choice. I'd second that JBL recommendation. I've got some little Studio 230's that are a lot closer to the Omen DW's in sound than they have the right to be...

Speakers that are easy to place and meant for corner loading or being placed up against a wall?

Be careful, my impression is that you like to listen to music a lot louder than most. While the Hornshoppe's are great speakers, I'm not sure they'd do well in your situation.

What are some of the best tiny speakers out there?

The little Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus are the best tiny speakers that have been in my listening room. They are fantastic and one of the few speakers that I regret selling. These are truly small speakers; they make a Harbeth P3ESR look huge.

    TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

Thanks for the room shot. I must say, you might get the greatest improvements of all by just working on room treatments. No expensive amplifiers or speakers or source material will make a bigger difference than dialing in your room. By far, the greatest improvements I've gotten from system...
