    R.I.P. Kegger

Terrible news. Can't say I knew him well as I was on my way out when he joined the forum in 05'. Most of my interaction with him was through the FF league he managed. Always came across as a top notch guy and reading the comments of those that knew him he was just that. Thoughts and prayers to...

Beatles Fans And Haters. A Must read.

Huge fan since the mid-60's. One of my 1st albums was Sgt. Pepper. Having spent so much time listening to their catalog I can't remember the last time I played them. Yesterday I was getting my haircut and the owner was spinning Abbey Road on this cheap table. I say and hummed the words out loud...

Music Lover , Audiophile or Both ?

Without the music the gear is pointless. System building requires your active participation. Listening is a passive activity. At this stage of my life I enjoy building things.

Single Ended Vs Push-Pull Tube Amps

Agreed. I would add listener musical preference. While most of my critical listening preference leans toward intimate recordings, and I rarely listen beyond 95db, I still enjoy my Smashing Pumpkins should the mood strike.

Single Ended Vs Push-Pull Tube Amps

The 1st time I listened to a Dynaco ST-70 in my system [30 years ago] I knew this is the direction I wanted to go. And when I purchased a Valve Amplification Company [with volume control] amp I was in a very good place. I tweaked it with the best NOS tubes and was happy. But eventually I...

How do you decide what to list in your signature?

Yikes! I've never encountered this but I don't hang out here much anymore and when I did the membership has much smaller. Behavior like that would often result in getting yourself banned / or time out. Not sure what the admin policy is anymore.

How do you decide what to list in your signature?

In 2002 I knew what the regulars were running. Since I don't frequent the site as often and the membership has grown I do not.

Modi Multibit Vs. Mudi Uber 2

This is something that some people just don't want to hear. Your system is simply not resolving enough to benefit from [insert] equipment. That and some people just aren't that sensitive / perceptive to subtle changes. The degree of these changes is where we often part company. While everything...

Jupiter Copper Foil 0.22uF / 600VDC coupling caps replacing Exotica Teflon caps in the Moth Audio s45 Installed these three [3] months ago and the system sounds better every day. They warned me of the extended [200 hr] burn in period but it seems to have lasted longer than reported by other...

    Ebay Score!

Scored 20 NOS 6an4 tubes for the Moth. They were only $1 a piece! Even if he jacked me around on shipping that's still a great deal. 14 of the 20 were the preferred D-getters from the mid-late 50's.

What power cables do you use for your tube phono and tube preamp?

No phone or pre-amp. I have BMI Whale Supreme / Elite power cords on my Shunyata / PS Audio PLC. Shunyata Sidewinder on the SET amp. The dac & jitter filter are plugged into the PS Audio PLC which in turn is plugged into the Shunyata PC. The amp / Shunyata PLC are plugged straight into the...

Cosmetics versus Performance... What is your 'ratio' ?

95% of my equipment was purchased new. I believe the oldest in active use is from 2001. Being a visual artist I rank aesthetics very high. I spend more time looking at it than listening to it. I would not buy a pair of used speakers if the cabinets were in rough shape [or less than 9 on a scale...

High End System Building on a Budget

My system is right there [10k]. My amp was purchased in 2001 and while you would be hard pressed to replace it with a comparable piece for what I paid [wholesale] you might be able to find it used [though I don't recall ever seeing that model listed]. My line conditioner was acquired far below...

Returning to Mid-fi After Owning High End Gear (on purpose)

My experience has been the opposite. While the system is more revealing there is also an increased level of ease and noticeably less sibilance. Recordings that were almost unlistenable before I now can sit back and enjoy. Due to the low noise floor there are times when you hear stuff that...

Returning to Mid-fi After Owning High End Gear (on purpose)

Audiophile since the early 70's. I have no desire to go back to lesser forms of replay. Last year I was unable to use the main system listed in my signature, so I picked up a Chromecast Audio puck for my HT system. I thought that was a very nice change, listening to familiar sources in a multi...

Cable Cutters - Whatcha Go With?

Really want to ditch our cable provider, just looking / waiting for a suitable alternative. Verizon FIOS looks sweet, unfortunately it's not available in our state [yet]. I'd love to cherry-pick channels but I don't think anyone is offering that service in our area. Looking at the usual...
