Thanks all! I don't have an 8-Track handy (nor do I have any deoxit) but I did clean the heads. Moving the volume controls around did clear it up a bit, so it might be as many have said: pots and switches just need to be cleaned.

I'll throw in a vote for the Hana (though mine is the SH or high output one). It's got great mid-range and bass and sounds great with just about everything from classical to metal. At $600-$700 (ask around ;)), you'd save a couple of bills as well. This cart was recommended to me *over*...

In another thread reviewing a Hana SH cart I just bought for my turntable, I had to stop my review because the Tandberg receiver that my TT was hooked up to overheated and automatically shut down. Subsequent attempts to "try again" would result in (near) overheating, even at moderate volume...
