    Bi-wiring: real benefits?

Again, one would have thought that one as passionately interested in getting the answer as you claim to be would have ponied up and bought a coupla cheap burgers by now. It would have less time than sorting through all the drek, doncha think? But, if the matter of a few feet of speaker...

    SX- And a Sub?

Not a problem. Guarantee you can use a sub with right and left speaker level inputs. Some even come with speaker outputs so you can feed the rest of the signal to your mains. Some receivers have preamp outputs. If that's the case, you can get a sub with right and left preamp (line level)...

    Bi-wiring: real benefits?

simply because this subject pops up weekly and another several hundred posts are devoted to this same subject. Is that really what this forum had fallen to? It's almost the same as starting a Bose bashing thread for garnishing attention. Hell, if it's that much a mainstay of this forum, why...

    Bi-wiring: real benefits?

Well. for the price of a few feet of speaker cable and less than an hour of time you would be able to claim the same experience as me in this subject. But you still seem to want to be fully convinced that it will work before "wasting" either the time, effort and money. As has been pointed...

How do newer speakers fair with vintage gear?

Yes, they would perform just as well with an older unit as they would with a new one. Old watts are the same as new watts.

Want just sound fm cable box

That will work fine. That's also what I do when I want a little sleeping music. The video and sound feed are two separate animals. Of course, if one takes the sound from the TV into the receiver, there might be problems if the TV is turned off.

Want just sound fm cable box

You can most certainly connect the audio out directly to your receiver (that's what I do) but trying to select a station without a monitor can be a real bitch.

    Bi-wiring: real benefits?

Good point. Why is is that bi-wire threads invariably wind up being about bi-amping? Don't people know the difference? Do they even know they don't know the difference?

Question to High End Speakers Owners..

There's nothing to be ashamed of to say that one prefers the taste of a two buck chuck bottle of wine to that of an expensive vintage wine. The heart wants what it wants. Of course, some effete snobs might think less of you for it, but do you really care?

    Stereo Vs Surround Sound?

You've obviously misread, or misinterperted, my post. I have no objection to multi-channel recordings as long as the source itself is in multi-channel format. In fact, I wish there were more of them. My copy of DSOTM in 5.1 SACD is a perfect example of this. It sounds great and is a very...

Heading down the driveway this morning and there I spot it....

I'm married too. I've learned to question my wife's beliefs with caution so I'll let you show THIS to her. Hopefully from a distance.

I never bothered. They both look the same so, to me, are the same.

Daffodil. That, and the other two plants I named, are the first to bloom in the spring around here. That's not counting the blooming idiots. They are always in season.

No Sub Woofer On Ext. In

We heard you the firs time. Apparantly, you didn't hear us. Please-read my post. You should be looking at what's plugged into the receiver's "analog ext in" to solve your problem, NOT your receiver.

110v amp plugged into to 240v - is it toast?

I had a '69 Chevy Nova like that once. As it coasted helplessly to the side of the road with no power and smoke coming out from under the hood, the "HOT" idiot light then popped on. :grumpy:

Why suffer with HDMI into receiver?

Unless you're sure otherwise, odds are that he's only getting 2.0 sound since most TV's downmix all external inputs to 2.0 for audio outputs. And, at best, he's not getting the best versions of DD/DTS sound that can only be passed from a Blu-Ray player via HDMI directly to the receiver. So...

No Sub Woofer On Ext. In

If, by "analog ext in", you mean the six analog jacks that accept a multi-channel analog output from Blu-ray players and the like, the receivers internal bass management is bypassed as is the rest of the digital processing. The external source controls the bass management, not the receiver...

NAD 306 integrated or NAD 116 preampli?

If they come from a reputable dealer and are guaranteed it's a "fair to high" price. If it's a craigslist type deal from a stranger, I'd say it's a bit high. I've seen NAD 1600 tuner/preamps going for around that.

NAD 306 integrated or NAD 116 preampli?

In that case, if your current power amp is "better" than the one in the NAD, or you simply wantto use it, than I'd go for the preamp. If not, or you simply choose to go for an integrated, then go for the other one. NAD power amps don't suck. IOW, you can't lose. I'm kinda curious about that...

NAD 306 integrated or NAD 116 preampli?

Two things. first, to OP. Do you already have a power amp to use, or plan to get one? Second, to previous poster: What do you mean by "low level"?

    Do you use tone controls

If anything, I would turn the treble down instead of the bass up to tame brightness

    Do you use tone controls

Rarely. Why do you want to know? Do YOU??? [edit] The previous poster gave you the best answer yet.
