Is Streaming the best thing that’s ever happened to listening to music?

Streaming is the best thing ever to prolong my stylus life. 2 records have been played in the past year since I started streaming with zero interest in playing anymore.

    A question about old fridges

My parents had that exact same fridge. They bought it brand new in 1948 and it was still working when their house got sold 50 years later. To my knowledge it had never been worked on.

Did you travel to see the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024?

Agreed; I drove by some of the most beautiful scenery in New England including a snow covered Mt. Washington. As beautiful as it all was the totality was hands down the star of the show that day.

    Speaker Builders

I had to laugh when I read this as that's exactly how I felt about mine. The only better sound they make is when the car door of their new owner closes and they head off into the sunset never to be heard from again. Strangely enough I've read comments by some owners that think they sound great...

    A question about old fridges

Yes; everything was removed and It's an insulated, waterproof steel box. Unless someone really looks closely it's tough to tell it started and lived most it's life as a fridge.

    A question about old fridges

Old fridges can also be put to use for record storage. I found one that was the same size as a window that used to be in my listening room. An Insulated steel waterproof box that fit the opening closely and I just added the shelves for the records. It's been there for probably 15 years now. I...

Did you travel to see the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024?

During my long drive back from seeing totality I was thinking just how much those last few percent matter. Very much like they do in this hobby to make or break a great system.

MC2300 - Is it the Most Famous Amplifier Ever?

Shortly after George died in 2013 one of his roadies was selling mc2300 side rails from one of those racks. Thankfully I was able to get a pair for one of my mc2500's that was minus it's side rails.

    Speaker Builders

I tried using the 3500's woofers in a much larger cabinet with an advent tweeter as a simple 2 way speaker. They were better than original 3500s as that wouldn't take much. It was a fun experiment but those speakers were still lacking overall. I agree with painttoad; don't waste your time trying...

    Cannabis and weight loss

Glaucoma here to. I've often thought of doing the pot thing to help lower my pressure but I just can't stand the way it makes me feel. I have 12 and 18 with drops. Talking to my retina specialist I've been assured that yes weed does help in lowering the IOC pressure.

Pressure Washer/Power Washing mildew off our siding ...

Get a gas powered unit with as much gpm as you can afford or care to spend. Using those little electric pressure washers is an exercise in frustration. They take forever to do a small spot and even then it's done poorly. By the looks of your siding under the eaves it appears your entire house...

MC2300 - Is it the Most Famous Amplifier Ever?

You have my blessings to post them. That had to be 15 years ago and I may not even have them anymore.

MC2300 - Is it the Most Famous Amplifier Ever?

Cool pics; I thought it was quite a sight to see those 2 rolling stacks of Mac at a George Jones show many years ago. Why was I the only person during the entire show to take a pic of them? No one else cared a single bit about them until some dark clouds appeared and then there was some real...

    Total Eclipse

I drove several hours to reach totality in Northern NH. Definitely one of the coolest things I've ever seen. When totality hit it was like someone hit a switch to complete darkness instantly on a bright sunny day.

    Who always have their phone...

They're a necessary evil and when I had to have them for work every one of them would do stupid phone things while in my pocket. Now that I'm retired the phone only comes with me when I need it for gps.

Fair price for a McIntosh MC 2250?

FWIW I sold my really nice mc2255 with a woodcase 3 years ago for $2600. It had an Audio Classics pedigree showing 380 wpc but it still took some time to sell it here in middle of cheapskateville. Can't keep them all and with the 2255 being a rotation amp its 100lb weight was getting to be a lot...

Guess who found a JBL PARAGON at Goodwill!

Sometimes the truth isn't always what one wants to hear in this hobby. I remember many years ago asking a very trusted friend his honest opinion about the sound of my rig. He did just that and I was not happy even though I knew he was right about a few shortcomings I had.

Retail (vintage/high end) Audio, secret handshake or something?

I can't recall not playing a unit for someone before I sold it to them. It's beneficial for both parties as the buyer can't come back and say it doesn't work if they audition it.

    GE Silicone sealant.

This is the absolute worst thing you can do for a leaky toilet. I had to replace an entire bathroom floor right down to the floor joists because someone did what you did. You're better off to take the sealant off and wipe up the water after each flush rather than let it leach into the...

Pop Coolers with Cold Water Around the Pop

There were 2 coca cola branded water coolers in what is now my listening building when I bought my house in 88. They both worked and yes they pumped the cold water out over the drinks. They took up a lot of space and didn't keep the drinks as cold as a more modern fridge so they both got sold.

    A question about old fridges

I had an ancient and very heavy fridge I used for a kegerator for many years. During the last kitchen remodel I was updating the kitchen fridge which was new in 2001 but still working well. Checking them both with my killawatt was an eye opener on just how much of a power hog the old fridge was...

Did Mac Ever Rebrand The MR78 Tuner into a Tuner/PreAmp?

I felt the same way when I had a tu9900 and a mr78 here at the same time a few years ago. Both had been completely gone through by competent techs so it was a fair comparison. As much as I was wanting the 78 to be the better tuner it just wasn't.

Cleaning the faceplate on a McIntosh 4100

I think there were 4 easy screws to remove. I was rather unhappy with myself for not taking it out the first time as it was so easy. Probably why I didn't pay attention to the easy removal. I've been using the preamp section into a separate power amp for the past month or so now as the relays...

Cleaning the faceplate on a McIntosh 4100

That would be me that messed up my faceplate with simple green. As far as removing it I honestly do not even remember the process other than it being very simple and straightforward. Perhaps that's the reason I can't recall the steps involved as there weren't many.

Did you travel to see the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024?

I'm in hopes of traveling to see it (not at the falls) but now I see there's a half assed nor'easter headed our way in New England. Hopefully it's gone and leaves good weather in it's wake one week from today.
