I like the variable loudness on my C-85 and Concept 16.5. I seem to never use more than 50% even at very low volume. I find some on/off loudness controls boost the bass to much and make the sound very muddy.

It may be dirty internal Pre-Amp to Main connections. Try using a patch cord to externally make this connection. This is the problem I had with my 2325.
