It's Not You, It's Me...Bands People Love, But You Don't

The Ramones - never has a band been so renown, for so little. Its 'cool' to like them and safe, since they've always been darlings of the critics. I guess I don't really hate them, because I do like the one song they put out...over and over and over again.

Gerry Rafferty ~ Snakes & Ladders

I love Gerry Rafferty And if he's put out a bad album, I ain't heard it yet. I have North and South and On A Wing And A Prayer from his later years and they're both excellent. Be forewarned...there is some silly prattle at the beginning of Welcome To Hollywood - some guy trying to sound like...

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! AC/DC Sells Out!!!

I got no problem with Walmart As someone already eluded to, the rising gas prices (with no end in site) precludes driving all over town to more specialized stores. All-in-one shopping experiences are the future, but one can still buy their music on-line. I mean, this is AC/DC we're talking...

    Walter Becker..I couldn't wait

I liked his 11 Tracks Of Whack, but wasn't too keen on his vocals. How much 'singing' is on this one?

    Southern Rock Playlist?

I second Alabama Thunderpussy; a kind of updated Black Oak Arkansas - a cross between Molley Hatchet and Pantera. Harder than the afore mentioned Black Oak, but not metal-core like another southern rock band, Mastadon. Still a boogie band at the core, or at least on the one CD I have, Open Fire.

Derek Trucks - where to start?

I had no idea he was married to her. I need some of her in my collection. I have her on a couple of comps, so I've heard of her. She has a great voice.

Derek Trucks - where to start?

I saw him on the Allman Bros DVD recently, and was so impressed that I bought his solo DVD, and was less impressed. Is this indicative of his solo stuff? Which Derek Trucks album is the definitive one?

What albums make you feel weird?

Albums like Bitches Brew and Trout Mask Replica make me feel like I just ate $15 for nothing.

The Velvet Underground and Nico.....what's all the hype?

VU is wildly influencial, or so I've read. You could say they invented David Bowie, and influenced punk. But alas, I never warmed up to VU either. I can name on one hand the number of VU songs I care to listen to, and that includes Lou Reed as well. Same with Iggy Pop. Don't hate'em...but don't...

    The Nightfly

The Nightfly has been a favorite of mine since I was 20! Steely Dan was my intro to jazz (as it was for many of us). About 8 years ago, The Nightfly was voted one of the top 20 all time greatest recordings (I forget which magazine). I concur. This CD still gets regular rotation in my house -...

tell me what music you listen to

Everything except rap (Ok I listen to some but not enough to say I do) I don't like corporate country, but I do like a lot of alt-country I don't like a lot of top-40 music, but I do listen to pop. I like jazz. I like classical. I love prog. I listen to some reggae, but not enough...

    Yes

I heard he was too. In fact, I read a press release a few months back by Rick Wakeman that eluded to Jon's health on the road; like its been an issue before. Rick himself said he'd do the tour, but he'd only agree to a short tour with about 10-15 play dates, because (and I paraphrase) "we're...

Alan Parsons Project - I Robot

That's news to me as well. It's been a while since I heard TOM&I. Must be something really recent. I used to be obcessed with APP. I kinda wore them out back in the day. The one album I can still listen to all the way through is I, Robot. I always thought it was APP's best album. Next would...

    Any fans of Guster?

Could it have been Goldfly? They have a couple of older albums that I haven't heard yet. They were mostly acoustic in the early days, but with each new release, they've added more and more instrumentation and production. Ganging Up On The Sun (2006) is not as jangly as Lost And Gone Forever...

    Any fans of Guster?

I have Keep It Together, Lost and Gone Forever, the one from a couple of years ago, Ganging Up On The Sun, which is my favorite; Satellite and C'mon from that album are both pop/rock splendor. My old internet bud PwrPopGuy would be in hog heaven with this group. I haven't heard much in the...

    Any fans of Guster?

I have three of their albums, and I have to say all three of them are very good, folksy, power pop/rock ala New Pornographers (sans female lead). Their albums just get better with every release. Their sound is strictly Americana, with only scant traces of Brit pop. Kinda like the old group...

    XTC Appreciation Thread!

Not playing live took them out of relevancy for sure, and Andy Partrdge himself admitts to being fallow in the way of ideas. I don't even think he a Moulding even speak to each other now.

    XTC Appreciation Thread!

Count me in. I have every album proper from Skylarking up to Apple Venus 2. When talking of bands that seemingly never very popular despite their greatness, XTC jumps to the fore front of my mind. Amazing that they never reached the status of some of the '80s more inferior acts.

    Crossover points

I've always known that a first order x-over was -6db, 2nd order -12db and so on, but I never connected that it was per octave. That was intersting info, thanks. I've used first order x-overs before, because I've been told they add the least amount of coloration to the sound of the driver (I use...
