Acoustic Drop Ceiling Tile

I have a large finshed basement with concrete floor, carpeted, and the ceiling is the dropped 24" tile, which is usually referred to as "acoustic".
I have no idea if that's a good thing or a bad thing, and would appreciate some education.

I also have a boxed in support post, right smack in the middle of the room. But that's something I'll take care of when I get good and drunk, and locate my 30' tow chain.

Owens Corning Sandrift tiles are 70 NRC (absorb 70% of sound that hits them). So, they are absorbative, not reflective. To Botrytis's point, that 70% is likely not spread evenly across the audible frequencies but still, its alot better than drywall..... I put it over drywall in den remodel but the project is not complete so I can't testify to its effectiveness. Sure is alot less echo with it than before tho....
