Waveguides might not be out of the question...
I have some of the mentioned Silver Flute drivers laying around and would be willing to give them to ray for measuring. They are sweet sounding drivers from my experience.
I've been meaning to order a pair of the new dayton 1-1/8" dome tweeters with the compact frame as well.
This hivi TN28 has always received positive reviews and would give the project a B&W like appearance and simplify cabinet work and allow easy time alignment of woofer and tweeter.
Here is the driver you need...

I'm rambling but another option would be to use vintage drivers that would be plentiful on ebay or most AKers basements. EPI inverted dome connected to a PE waveguide anyone?
That one could work too, but what do you do about the stacking guys?
transmission line,
that may be the type i was trying to convey.I think we're on the same page anyway.a interior fold(s) to help less expensive and limited drivers to become more.it seems with this budget and design the real factor is the enclosure, not the relitive minor diferences in the drivers.
imo.
cheers
The universal DIY experience is significantly better speaks for about the same $$$, plus a multitude of intangibles.I agree, i barely work on almost together speaks and just doing the raw math in costs, better off heading to rat shack or alike.
Are you a mind reader?I know I said I'd shut up but, what if the cabinet finish is not part of the project? Personally, I'd love to have some naked mdf or naked plywood killer speakers that are "a wolf in sheep's clothing." As Henry Ford used to say, "You can have any finish as long as there isn't any."
