The New Dynamic
Now that things are well underway to getting this board to where we all want it, I wanted to take a sec and go over a few things.

First off, I realize now that the vintage sect of AU may not be the only people "crossing over". If I've left out a forum or category that you want to have, please let me know and we can get it on the boards with about a minute's work. One of the easy things :)

Secondly, I'd like to have at least one moderator in each forum. What is a moderator? Basically, all your job "is", is to check posts, delete inappropriate posts (by which I mean things that really should not take place here as you see fit), etc. You will also have the power to modify the posts of others that post in your forum, only for the purpose of deleting inappropriate material (by which I mean badmouthing other members, "flame wars", etc. We're not going to turn this into MarantzTalk :puke: ). And, of course, it's fun too :)

The moderators on here now, you already have these powers.

I also need a fellow administrator. The admin will basically help me with graphics, site layout, and basically all of the computer stuff that I have no idea how to do (which is most of it actually).

I need some volunteers! I haven't decided on a mod for Vintage yet because that's where many of you come from, and I thought we'd just all take a vote. I will say though, it'd be fun to have Thor be the Off Topic moderator...... :D

Post your thoughts!

Yes THOR sounds like a good choice for "Off Topic" ... sorry "off planet" you said?? :D

Also, I think once things settle down and everyone gets registered you're probably going to need 2 mods per forum (definitely for Vintage anyway) so that there is always at least 1 plus yourself kicking around.

What are your plans to increase the traffic thru this site? Are you going to be able to establish any affiliations with other boards etc?

Just curious ... its been a good start, I want to see it fly:starwars:

I will be glad to help you admin, at leastuntil all the bugs are worked out and things settle down. It will also help me tie the board and the rest of the site together.

Question: do you prefer the AudioKarma logo attached or standing alone on the home page?

What have I gotten myself into  :D

You're thinking WAY ahead of me. I'm not doing this as a commercial thing or with a goal in mind, rather I'd just like to sit back and see what happens for now. We're all just amigos here shooting the breeze :)

How are we (non-mods included) going to prevent this from becoming an AR - trolls pretending to be newbies, and flame wars abundant?

You've got mail in your PM box. Actually I'd like if you could include the ".org" in there too, sorry if I'm picky. Have at it :)

For sure, I was just thinking that besides the usual faces around here, it would be nice if there was a steady flow of new guys to add some more color.

One of the problems with AU (there weren't many, but) was that there was a hardened core (which is good), but there were very few others hanging around ...

I wasn't thinking commercial, just thinking about how to boost the traffic so that it becomes possible for the new guys to find us.

Anyway, I hear you, its early days, and my, its good to be here with the other regulars! :)

Tim I'd love to help out. I could moderate one of the forums. I spend enough time here anyway might as well be of some use. Just tell me which one you'd like me to moderate and I'm there for ya.

I don't anticipate such problems because I'm not going after their forum base. The only reason I spent the money to do this is that we'd all have a place to go since AU was falling apart. If they are interested in such games, I'd want no part of them here. As well as banning users, I can ban IP addresses if such things occur.

But that stuff really doesn't worry me.

Seemed like you'd be a natural moderator for our new Speakers area!

Kama

you got PM :D

I think a forum that should be added is one dedicated to Software - in the end, we listen to music on the systems, don't we? ;)

i dunno 'bout that - software doesnt usually make for discussion posts. not saying that makes it pointless, but it is (for me at least) only read when i have time on my hands, and the other forums have no new posts...

too many forums and not enough posters would mean people start to feel 'thinly spread' :-/

I will be a moderator! oooooooooooooo the power!

I must remember what Uncle Ben told Peter Parker

"With great power comes great responsibilty"

I think that forums over at audio review Thor :puke:

I'm glad to see that everyone likes the vomiting smiley! :)

But did you know there are two of them?

In my opinion, you can't have enough vomiting smileys!

a links forum with a sticky post at the top full of useful links would be really really cool!

although links would have to be good, categorised and such- if it becomes just a chunk of URL's, its effectively competing with existing links pages (which have one helluva head start !)

:spam:

So who wants to volunteer for the links thing?

This is the tough part....one wants more forums, one wants less forums. One wants one color background, which won't make the other one happy. One wants bigger avatars allowed, and one says they're too big. Which makes me wonder how most everyone was happy at AU :dunno: . I'm going to check into as much as I can and do what I can, but is everyone going to be happy??

A lot of ideas, and I appreciate them, but here's what I'm going to do, just to make things simple. Aside with forum creation, and some tweaks, I'm going to leave the board software alone for the next month or so, this is an adjustment period for me as well. If you want a forum up, and you suggest it, be prepared to moderate it! :D

The forum colors and icons are done on templates, which I will be having designed and paying for through a vBulletin expert I came across. So you'll have to get used to purple for now ;) . It's not as easy as flipping a color switch.
