Any love for the Marantz CD-54 ??

From what I read, its a very early CDP with a well regarded transport. I have a chance on one for around $20, just wondered if anyone owns one of these things ?

I don't, but the Marantz do seem to have good transports, so for $20, why not? You can always start another system somewhere!

And considering where you are, do these show up often or is this a rare bird?

According to http://www.dutchaudioclassics.nl/the_complete_d_a_dac_converter_list/#M , the DACs are 2 x Philips TDA1540D - SAA7030 and the Laser Pickup a Philips CDM-1 . Well, I got it but for a bit more than intended. I dropped $50 on it, given it is a very rare bird in this part of the world. Also seems some relatively easy mods can be done for decoupling the DAC and NOS...
