Anyone remember the old Jim Beam back to basics advertisements?
Long-time AK lurker, finally enlisted. After playing with home theater, PC based systems, DACs, etc., I came across an advertisement for a little Sansui 210. I grew up on one of those before my room mate killed it in college. It got me thinking that I ought to revisit some vintage gear. I was too late to the show to grab that one, but was able to snatch up a Pioneer SX-550.
I cleaned it up and put power to it-- holy schnikes. I forgot how amazing quality 2ch can sound, even on a little receiver. It was so good that even my 12 year old daughter commented on the sound. I've been bitten.
I haven't quite determined my taste yet, so I have been sampling different makes. So far I have limited myself to low to mid-powered receivers since I can't afford a monster right now and frankly I don't need to rattle any windows. So far, the stable includes:
Pioneer SX-550 current daily driver
Technics SA-5270 cleaned up and ready to rock
Technics SA-300 just finished
Yamaha CR-640 in shop-- the dreaded STK issue
And a special one on the way that I will reveal when I get her up and running.
I am having a blast! SO grateful for all the knowledge, experience and help in this community!
