Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

I wish that happened to me often on $100+ records. Then that would mean I'd actually find some from time to time! :D

Saw this the other day... Got a little excited. Set it aside to finish my dig then took a peek inside. Empty!
It seems like whenever I feel like I'm about to make a media scroe that happens. Most recently, Big Black "Songs about F**king" which I would sorely love to own... you guessed it... empty... (I guess that answers the perennial question, who the hell drops that off at goodwill? The answer, apparently, nobody - which does restore my faith in humanity a little)

Picked up this Panasonic RX-1950 AM/FM recording walkman today for £5 ... It's from 1982 and had a MRRP of $175.00.

My favourite finds? I'd say a SoundBlaster 2.0, AWE64, Technics SL-J3, Marantz SD555
Macintoch Performa 5320
Geforce2 MX
Logitec Wingman Extreme Digital.
Pentium III computer /w ISA slots.
Bunch of EDO and PC-XXX ram. Pentium I 133

I know an other thriftstore that has some nice speakers, I'm not sure if I should try them though.

IMG_8477.JPG IMG_8479.JPG I went to a GW about a 1/2 hour from my house today to go to the Buy the Pound section. I stopped into the regular retail store next to it and I see this box set for the Sugarhill Records Story. 5 CDs, a record and booklet for $3.00. The box has a little wear but the CDs, booklet and record are NM.

Freddymac2 here,
I found a Nakamichi TA 2a (50 watts) at the bottom of a box, working with a good display, and noisy volume and balance control! Case is mint! $20 at Good Will. I don't know if anyone here has heard the dynamics of a Stasis amp, but it is amazing.

My recent vinyl scores...

I also spotted this Otari 10" r2r player for $300, but I didn't bring it home. It had a cool stand with casters, which would be awesome for wheeling it in and out of the living room!

Man, that Otari brings back memories from my radio days.

I scored a pair of PSB 400's for 40 bucks. Initially passed over them, then lifted them. Whoa. Heavy. Not a screaming deal, but they sound very clean, very accurate.

not mine, but just as clean.

You could get nearly $300 on eBay just for the stand and have the deck for free.

Trip to Krogers, stopped by the local GW even though it's been pretty slim pickings lately. Somebody must have brought in their whole collection of albums. Already had most but picked these up, 99 cents before OF discount. Covers are from VG to mint, vinyl is VG+ to mint. Hardly played or just good equipment. AlbumsGW.JPG

I've been finding a lot of nice LPs lately at my two favourite thrifts. Here are some of my favourites!

Woah, nice snags on the Ultravox and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Never seem to find much of anything LP wise at thrifts. Hah, I can see why those would be your 2 favorite thrifts!

So I went to thrift and bought the following tapes:
Ahmad Jamal - At The Pershing
Ramsey Lewis Trio - Wade in the Water
And a cleaning tape.
Did I mention these were 8-track tapes? I don't even own a player! I'm going to hell!

I'm listening to Quartet right now. They are all in perfect condition. Not a tick or tock to be heard. I remember Quartet, but not the first one. They have a totally different sound between these two albums, mind you they were pressed 5 years apart.
