and it seems to work fine, doing duty in the dining room. It has pretty good FM reception and a cd player. It's extremely compact, but still packs a punch. What I haven't figured out yet, is how I can adjust stuff like the balance between L and R and tone control (bass and treble). No knobs or anything like it on the front panel (click on 1st picture to enlarge). The remote features only the basic functions. Anyone familiar with this Sony gem?

Press buttons until something happens. Maybe the function or the volume will reveal those adjustments.

Hmm - hcdsd1_11.pdf is a minidisc system! Here is the manual ...
http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/service/hcdsd1_11.pdf

The cover says:
HCD-SD1 is the amplifier, CD and tuner section in CMT-SD1.

Thx. But what I have (and what you see here) is the receiver + cd player section. Tried to find out if buttons have a double function... Nope.

The peculiar thing about the manual is that it contains technical info, testing procedures, wiring scheme, etc. No explanation of the basic controls.

[seconds went by....]

Found it: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/res/manuals/3864/38647701M.pdf

The remote control can be flipped open, for another set of controls. Who would have thought? Cool!

Had a Panasonic VCR remote which looked something like Pandora''s box once I fathomed out the ridiculous opening mechanism.
