burr brown dac's

What is the main difference between let's say a PCM 54 and a PCM 56 DAC? Are higher numbered dac's better? Why are burr brown dac's recommended? Thanks for any info.

The PCM54 is a parallel data input; the 56 is serial data input. Which to use depends on the type of digital bit stream used inside the CD player or DAC box. These particular chips are nice in that the current output can be separated from the op-amp. And that the current to voltage converter can be a resistor. See more at my web page http://pw2.netcom.com/~wa2ise/radios/tubedac.htm where I worked with PCM56s and 61s, similar DACs.
