Bypassing PC with External HD Storage?

FWIW A buddy of mine has a router that can also be a music server. Has his 1TB drive hooked up that way. All of his network devices, TVs, phones, ipads etc can access it.

Yes! I have a $100 CDN D-Link wireless router that has a USB input. They tell me it is for music or photo's. I haven't tried it out but I'm guessing it has rudimentary music and photo apps for a pc or smartphone for music or photos on all connected devices.

Have a look at your manual. The higher level D-Link models (2900, 2600) have a DLNA server. They may also have a file server.

I use Foobar2000 with Win10. It was a PITA getting it to work without glitches and stutters. Running Foobar with high task priority solved the problem. Applications usually run with normal priority.
